When You Don't Know The Person

This is my story of buying a coworker that I really knew nothing about a gift.

A few years ago at work we had to draw out of a hat.  Everyones names at work was in this hat.  Christmas was coming so of course, so was the Christmas party.  I happened to pick the name of the one person I was hoping not to pick.  I worked in a fine dinning room, she was the bartender in the lounge.  I never really had developed a friendship with this person because I all ways found her kinda cold, and even though I worked with her of three years I never got to know her.

I remember feeling a little depressed.  None of the other waitresses really knew her all that well either.

I finally called my mother, looking for words of wisdom in this situation.  What do you think she said?  ’You can never lose with a gift certificate when you don’t know the person.  Just ask around to the other employes where she shops.  Someone has to know something.’

So I went to the swing shift bartender, knowing they would talk between shifts.  I told him that I had picked her name for the Christmas party.  ’She loves to read, and she buys her books at Borders.’  BINGO!

We were not to go over 25.00$ That made it so easy.  I went to Borders and bought a 25.00$ gift card and went to the party.

I still remembered the look on her face.  She was thrilled with it.  We became friends after that.  She told me later she was touched that I actually went out of my way to find something she would want.

My advice would be.  Take the time to find a little bit about the person if you don’t know them.  And like my mother said you can’t lose with a Gift Card.
