You guys out there don’t love your GRANDFATHER or what? How come no reviews in this section at all? But I do and that’s why I am writing this one.
Choosing a gift for grandfather is not at all tough and you don’t have to worry about weather he will like it or not because at their age, they will appreciate whatever you give to them. What matters to them most is you care for them and you remember them.
Gift for grandfather or grandmother in that matter can be divided into two categories. One that has materialistic value and one that does not. In the later category, gifts that fall are time you spend with them, help them out with their daily routine, share your knowledge with them, learn from their experience etc. All these things does not have$ value but the happiness and satisfaction they get from you being around them is uncomparable.
But if you are looking forward to give him something which is materialistic I would suggest you know him first. This way its easy to buy gifts for him. My suggestion goes like this:
1) Know His Routine
At this age, they generally follow certain routine. So your gifts should be something that can fit into their routine life. If your grandfather goes out for walk everyday in the morning, buy him a walking stick that he can use. If he wears particular type of shoes, buy him that. Make sure you know the exact size and comfort levels of those things.
2) Know His Eating Habits
This reminds me of the ad that used to come on TV for Dabur Chavanprash featuring Sriram Laggo and his grandson who says’Dadaji Chavanprash’ and they both eat it. This is the perfect example of what you should know about your grandfather. I know my grandfather likes to drink coffee every day. So if I have to choose something, I will buy coffee mugs for him, which will be big and very light in weight, with proper heat insulation so that he does not get burnt. I would also look into what brand of coffee and flavor he likes so that I can buy him some. So you can buy the things which falls into their eating habits.
3) Know His Weaknesses
Try to know your grandfathers weaknesses. Weather he can read and hear properly or not. If not try to buy him watches which has big numbers on it instead of having hundred different programs. At this age they don’t care about all those things. For them watch is meant to know the time and date and thats it. So if you buy a watch which has BIG numbers, it will help them. Another thing is medicines. At their age they are always on medication. Try to buy them a box with different sections where he can keep his medicine very organized so that he does not forget and have to read the labels all the time. So know his weakness and buy something that can reduce his stress.
4) Know What He Loves
If your grandfather likes to listen to particular type of music or records buy him some. Know his collection. Try to get those collection on cd and gift him with cd player. So try to find out what he actually likes to do and enjoy. If he likes to see TV all the time, subscribe for those channels. If he likes to read, get him his favorite novels or subscribe for news papers and magazines. So try to buy stuff which he likes and that can give him pleasure.
I think if you know all the above four things about your grandfather it should not be hard for you to find gift for him, any time.
