Its the eve of Raksha Bandhan. I am sitting here pretty much lost in thought now. A nagging question in my head.’Am I a good brother?’
I’m going to embark on something thats personal. please bear with me on this one.
I never shared a great bond with my sister. For one, she and I were two different personalities. She was the one who got it all. the dominating one. I was the black sheep. the quiet one who didnt complain. never asked for anything.
Then we grew up and we drifted further apart. she got married. I left the country to earn a living and support my folks. time and tide didnt wait for either one of us.
We shared the same womb. but there never was a deep bond.
Until one day I got a phone call. it was my sister. she said she’d been diagnosed with cancer.
She fought the cancer. went through the painful therapy. and the suffering that comes from the after effects of chemotherapy and radiation. she lost her hair which was very long and thick. in one night. she went through it all. and won.
The ordeal had its silver lining. we finally had a bond. sometimes it takes life to shock some sense into people.
Her hairs grown back.
and was I a good brother? I was.
So what gifts can one give a sister.

A gift called LOVE - that will help them feel wanted. that will help them feel warm. and happy.
A gift called PRAYERS - that will bring every happiness. every joy. to their doorsteps.
A gift called SUPPORT - that will ensure them that no matter what happens in life. you’re there for them.
A gift called LAUGHTER - that is the ultimate emotion.
and finally.
A gift called UNDERSTANDING - I should have had more of that. she should have had more of that. we lost out on many years.
On a more materialistic note. this is what I’d probably get my sister:

A Cordless Phone, Another Mobile Phone, Another Land Line - hell. whats with phone fixations.
Thats three. now two more.
A car - yeah. need to get her one
A shopping spree heh heh.
A special Shout out to my Rakhi sister Delnaz who’s simply the sweetest person this planet has ever seen. Love you with all my heart.
