~*To master an art...*~

One believes that the art of choosing gifts is a complex one to master. One pondered on whether to write a review on what to purchase for one’s male counter-part. Yet then again as one is female, one thought that she would be better at giving advice on what girls would like to receive. One also believes that one is sounding rather like the Queen talking in this matter. Would one care to join one for tea at Buckingham Palace? Or would one care to add to one to equal two?

Wait, this is turning into maths! NO! Get the mentally affective teaching hazard away from me…(I’m math phobic. Yes, it does exist)

Moving swiftly on…

I seriously was wondering whether to write on this topic or not. I was “worried” that it may turn into some ultimate love saga which to which know one understands a word of(Ekta would have been proud!). But then I remembered that my boyfriend is currently non-existent, so none of that in store for you lucky readers!

Just out of interest, I wonder what topic you would have to write under if you were fatally obsessed enough to write a review on your latest bf/gf? Best actor/actress? Entertainment? Appliances? Or fashion accessory?(I’m sorry!)

And to think that me, Miss Love Guru herself is writing this review!(this review is slightly sarcastic). My advice is there as advice, not commands. Please read all instructions and warnings carefully. Responsibility will not be taken for any broken hearts, bones, glass or empty bank balances. Jab dil ki baat hai then handle with care;)

Write her a song:

Imagine you and your band(yes, coz everyone so owns a band. I store mine in my back pocket), voices blaring through the P.A. system for all to hear. Or perhaps you’re serenading her from outside her window. You’re playing a song especially written for that special someone; the lyrics are just for her.

Even if the lyrics do sound like a tasteless repetitive nursery rhyme, I’m sure Juliet would highly appreciate the fact that you racked your brains to find the perfects words for her.

Even if your voice sounds like a jammed up old record player, I’m sure the girl would love the fact that you mustered up the courage to sing in front of everyone

And even if you end up as the laughing stock of the college(or wherever else) the next day, I’m sure she would happily be yours forever…

Wait. I’ve just imagined my self as that girl.

On second thoughts do not attempt the above unless you really are part of a band or can actually sing…

But that doesn’t mean scrap the idea of song-writing, just stick to the actual writing part of it! It’s truly a great gift, coz it comes from the heart and expresses your true feelings!

Something hand-made:

Take a trip down memory lane, back to those days of art and craft lessons in school…the art of messing around and the fine craft of chalk fighting…and Mrs Wots-her-name falling asleep herself coz no one could care less about the lesson…Those were the days…

But no! Thats not the point. I’m talking about putting in that ever so little more effort into making something for your girlfriend with your own hands(which do not just happen to be there for channel-surfing and hair-doing).

Make a card instead of buying one. Or paint a picture for her. Even if your artistic abilities range to that of a 4 year-olds then don’t worry. Have you seen modern art these days?! A scrapbook of some kind filled with pictures and photos and sweet messages would be just as effective(but I guess you’d have no know her pretty well). Just knowing that someone has spent all the time and effort to create a something one-of-a-kind, something that can not be bought anywhere or re-made, makes the present even more special!

A good book

Nothing beats a good book(apart from maybe a good CD). Reading a book is the best way to relax after a stressful day. The only problem is that a really good book can get be addictive and hard to put down! And the best part is that books come in all types and topics, so even if she isn’t really that interested in murder mystery novels, you could always get her something lighter or different. A book of quotes? Poetry? Or a Filmfare mag? You can’t get more original than that.(imagine getting a magazine for your b-day!)

The usuals

The title says it all…chocolates if she likes them, jewellery(something like a ring or necklace), soft toys, etc. A teddy bear is not really the most innovative thing ever… try and be a bit more creative with ideas. I would suggest cooking but that could be dangerous.

Take her out

I still believe that this counts as a present if you do all the funding… A huge bouquet of red roses, travelling around in a flashy car, a lavish dinner at a five-star restaurant…but then again that is kind of predictable and boring. How about taking her out in the middle of torrential rain, driving down to Haribhai’s stall just outside Mithibai College for adrak ki chai and fresh, hot vada pav with lasun-mirchi chutney? Just like Vivek Oberoi once did…(no, unfortunately I am not his girlfriend * sighs*. I found that gem of knowledge out from a Filmfare magazine. See, they do come in use!)

Love

The best gift ever. It costs nothing, and yet its worth so much. Love is just being happy…listen to her, understand her and the perfect gift is anything that will make her happy. Girls cannot be generalised. And neither can they be categorised. Everything on this list may not work for every girl on this planet. But one thing everyone needs is love:) (hey the sarcasm has worn off!)
