THERE'S MORE THAT COILS TO KEEP BUGS AWAY

WEST NILE VIRUS is spreading across the United States and Canada. They have even found the virus in one Mother’s breast milk. This virus is spread by Mosquitos and I believe some Crows.

I am so afraid of Wasps and Mosquitos. I am allergic to Wasp bites and Mosquito can cause Diseases like Dengue, some forms of Encephalitis, Japanese Encephalitis, Lime Disease, Malaria, Meningitis, some forms of Pneumonia, Typhoid Fever and as I already said West Nile Virus.

Mosquito repellents come in the coils, creams, mats, an oil or a spray can called DEETS and even sticks.

~O COILS AND A PLANT O~

When we lived in Edmonton we had a Mosquito coil. We kept on inside near the front door and one on our patio. These are small electric coils and contain Citronella. I also planted a Citronella Plant in my front yard and on the Patio. I found this coil or the Plants didn’t help at all. Each box cost me about$6.00 CAD and the Plants cost me a dollar each.

Next I tried Tortoise Mosquito Coils that are made in India. The smoke that comes out when your burn does repel the Mosquitos. They kept the Mosquitos away for almost 10 hours. The coils come with 10 coils and 2 stands. They can be used indoors as well as outdoors but you need to put each one about 10 feet away from the next one in the places that you want to keep protected. The Stands that come with the coils can be reused so don’t have to buy a new one every time you buy a new coil. On the box it says’They make the coils from herbs, (but don’t say which ones). These cost me$5.00 CAD and worked very well.

Now that we live in Vitoria there are no Mosquitos so I don’t need to use any coils and my little Venus Fly Trap keeps the Moths’no see-ums’ and Wasps out of our House. The Plant doesn’t help me at all when I am outside.

Victoria is surround by Forest so there may be Ticks in them. We also have a lot of Wasps so I use a cream every day.

~O MY FAVORITE CREAM O~

In the Spring and Summer I use AVON’s’Skin So Soft’ when I am in Canada, Europe and the United States. This cream works well in these Countries. It is not strong enough to repel Mosquitos in Asia and Africa.

It comes in a 4 fl. oz plastic bottle, (that is easy to take on a trip because it won’t break). It is waterproof so I don’t have to reapply it after I go swimming.

On by bottle it says that, ’ There is no chemical smell and gives me protection against no-see-ums, Ticks and Lyme Disease. It doesn’t not have any Deets or Paba in it and this means everyone in a Family can use it’. My bottle costs me about$5.00 CAD, (and because I order it in Alberta there is not tax).

~O WHAT IS DEETS O~

The first time I went to Africa my Doctor recommended I use DEETS, (’diethyl-meta-toluamide’), to keep the Mosquitos away. Since then every time I go to a place where there are Mosquitos I take a tiny bottle of Deets oil with me.

Deets comes in a small bottle and a dab goes a long way. Every morning I use it all over my body it doesn’t wash of easily so at night I must take a shower and rub it off because it is dangerous to use.

My Doctor will only let me use it for up to 3 weeks at a time, (when I come Home there is at least ½ a bottle of oil left and that’s why I said a little dab goes a long way).

If it is so dangerous why did my Doctor recommend I use it? It was recommended because it is the only thing that keeps dangerous virus, (that are found in Asia and Africa), away.

Please do not use Deets unless you check with your Doctor.

I pay$5.00 CAD for the bottle of Deets Oil.

*Children can not use anything with Deets in it. If you look on the cream you are using you might find it has Deets in it.

~O SOME THOUGHTS 0~

I hope the research I did on the various ways to keep Mosquitos etc. away was helpful. I welcome any comments.
