Choosing the right career?
Many know that I am the most confused person when it comes to choosing something. {don’t believe them pleez}
Either I opt for everything or else nothing…{thanks to my unstable mood and tastes}
Hence I may not be the right person to look upon. But, for advices…I can always give sensible, practical and
beneficial ones. {hopefully}.
Hence I request that only if you trust an honest and rather kiddish person like me then read on…
To be frank, I have read many articles and write-ups regarding choosing a career.
This is what I have summed up from them and my short but rich experience.
1.APTITUDE: Whether you like something or not, it is important to have an aptitude for that trait.
There is no point doing architecture when you can’t draw. Similarly, if you can’t calculate, getting into engineering will not fetch you much.
Keep in mind. Never underestimate yourself. If you are confused as to whether you can try your hand at something or not {like in my case} ask your parents or teachers {who know you well}. It is important that you listen to all but ultimately do what you and your parents feel.
2.LIKES: Along with aptitude, liking what you do is equally important. Keep in mind, only if you like something will you survive there. There can never be a case where you dislike everything. If your hobbies and career is one and the same, there is nothing like it. Imagine… pursuing your hobby as your career…how lucky and blessed will you be. But, there are limits to everything. We should remember that all hobbies cannot be pursued as careers. Remember to take care on that front.
3.FAMILY BACKGROUND: This is one of the important aspects, unfortunately, neglected by many.
If your family has a background in some field and you like that field it would be beneficial to take up that as your career.
One of the reasons being…that you can excel and progress better due to experience and contacts of your family.
At the same time, if you are capable enough, doing something out of the way is not wrong. Only that, you should be prepared to struggle and be patient. In fact, if you do something, all on your own, it gives you more satisfaction and happiness.
4.FINANCIAL BACKGROUND: If you are going to pursue something at the cost of your daily bread be sure that,
that will fetch you something. If you have a family responsibility, act responsible. Try to be selfless. The immense happiness that you get by living and working for your loved ones is invaluable. You can never give back all that your parents have done for you. At least try to give them the most. Remember, your parents will be happy only if you are happy and content. Be ambitious but not at the cost of good conduct and values.
5.CONTEMPLATE: Look at your career from the long-term point of view. Ask yourself: Will my loved ones and I be happy if I take up this? Will I get sufficient monetary gain by pursuing this? Will I be contented and happy by doing this? Will this field remain stable in the upcoming days? If you get and answer in the positive …Go for it!
6.MONETARY GAINS: This can never be neglected. Who does not wish for luxury and comfort? If what you do will fetch you the money you desire and you will do nothing at the cost of other’s happiness and good conduct you are on the right path. Be sharp. Be smart. Don’t ever let anyone take advantage at the cost of your loss. Ask…find out…read and search…only when you take this first step will you know where there is scope and profit.
7.PERSONALITY:Are you the kind of person to survive in this field? If you feel that your personality needs some touch up, don’t hesitate to look for help. There are many personality and language development courses. Look for good ones and take them up in your free time.
Even aptitude tests help to determine your potential and skill to some extent. If you are the confused kind then aptitude tests can be of good help. If you already know what is meant for you then look for a good career counselor who can guide you about the upcoming careers in your chosen field.
At an ending note: Please trust yourself and your capabilities. Confidence and honesty go a long way in your career life
