Guys, I would firstly say that think 100 times before you decide to have any dealing with Citibank. They are a bunch of cheaters. I have been shocked by the harassment Citibank has shown towards settling my closure of credit card.
I have called them about 25 times already but every time the stroy is the same. I had asked for the closure of my credit card back in September 2003. There was some disputed amount of Rs.1400 of which there was no mention at the time of the final statement I received.
Few months afterwards when I was not in the country the credit card statements started coming again on my residence address asking of the disputed amount + late payment fee + taxes without any mention of what was discovered on enquiry of the disputed amount. After a few months that amount had gone upto Rs. 3000 when I came back and read the statements. There was no letter or e-mail to convey that I would have to pay the disputed amount before sending those statements every month.
I was then contacted by their recovering agency in Aundh called LBS and told that I would have to pay the amount in full. I told them that since there was no official communication sent to me on the disputed amount I would not pay it. On which I was given a Citibank officers number and settle the dispute. I called her up and she said that she would reverse the late payment charges since I was not intimated about the disputed amount at the time of closure of the credit card. I was finally told to pay up Rs. 1600 to LBS to settle the case. I went to LBS in May 2004 and payed the amount by cash to an executive in LBS. She gave me the receipt and told that my dues have been settled and that I wont receive any further statements.
But to my surprise they kept coming each month with 1600 Rs. deducted from the amount and late payment charges and taxes slapped as usual. I contacted LBS and they said that they would stop coming from now on and I was to ignore the previous statements. I waited again for sometime but they never stopped coming. I have called up citibank numerous times to remind them of stop sending the statement. Every time they give me the same reply We have put your request in the system and they wont come from now on, but you know what - they are still coming.
I am totally frustrated calling the bank up every time I receive a statement. To say that I am shocked at such poor service would be an understatement. Reading other peoples similar experiences I would say that citibank has a policy of harassing those customers who decide to part with their pathetic services.
