Clairol Daily Defense Shampoo for Color Treated hair is not what it is cracked up to be. I was very disappointed.
Like most ladies I color my hair or perm it at one time or another. I thought this would be a great shampoo since most other Clairol products are exceptional. This was a total waste of money.
The label reads as follows:
Everyday stresses like sun, smoke, pollution, hard water and harsh styling can assault your hair robbing it if its vitality. Daily Defense defends with products that can protect your hair from everyday environmental & styling stresses.
Ok lets take that apart a little. First my hair is not assaulted but it was amusing. Who is going to assault a head of gray, brown and blonde hair? Now tell me how the elements will rob vitality from my hair when it has not had vitality for years?! Ok I will agree that curling irons, curlers and blow drying do tend to damage and break your hair but how can Daily Defense fix a broken hair or two?
Daily Defense products contain an exclusive nutrient complex of proteins, Vitamin E, protective conditioners, UV filters, and Pro Vitamin B5. This complex penetrates inside and shields outside the hair shaft. Daily Defense offers a full range of protection throughout the day and leaves your hair healthy, shiny and strong.
Ok Pantene ProV makes the same claim as many other shampoos on the market. The only way a product will penetrate the hair shaft is if you wash your hair upside down. The water washes against the natural layers of the hair there by forcing them to open like a fan. Then the stuff might get to the hair shaft but not actually penetrate it. The only thing I have seen that will penetrate a hair shaft is a chemical procedure like perming or coloring. That actually changes the makeup of the hair shaft and introduces chemicals into the hair shaft it self.
Daily Defense Shampoos, formulated with a special chelating ingredient, grab onto hard remove hard water minerals and metal salt deposits that dull and roughen hair.
This statement just blows me away. Any shampoo is formulated to take deposits off your hair. You can use specialized shampoos for Chlorine removal (I used to teach water aerobics and you need that shampoo) if you are in a pool for any length of time but a neat little trick is to either add a coating of conditioner to your hair or a thin coating of sunscreen to help to water proof your hair some.
First we are lead to believe it will leave your hair with a healthy, shiny and strong attitude. Nothing is farther from the truth. My hair was weighted down and felt greasy. I felt as if I had just put a hot oil treatment on my hair and did not wash it out.
Over all I am very disappointed in this product. It is not worth the money. I do better in a pinch with Suave and when I have the extra mad money I will buy Pantene. Please save your money and do not buy this shampoo. I expect better from Clairol.
The shampoo and conditioner cost $3.69 for each bottle. I wasted $8.00. I have written to Clairol and made my dissatisfaction with this product and have yet to get a response. This is not what I expected from Clairol.
The only thing this product has going for it it is the bottle and label. The bottles have a pop up top that makes it easy to get the product out. The labels are colorful with clouds and colors as a background. This is the only thing that is good about this product.
