I never really paid attention to shoes before; in high school I lived in Keds. Then, I entered college, and the world of Doc Martens. While certainly a cool shoe, not exactly the look this school teacher wants to pull off. As I became older, I wanted shoes that helped me look somewhat professional, and yet were comfortable and stylish enough to wear outside of work. I teach a group of kids with special needs, and often need to dress comfortably, while still looking like a teacher. Heels are certainly out.
My mom turned me on to Clarks, telling me how comfortable they were, and how they were cheaper than her favorite shoe company, Ecco. Cheaper meant $50-$60 at least, but I was ready to make an investment in the shoe portion of my wardrobe.
I had previously been wearing shoes from a company called Aerosole, but when I became pregnant last year and my feet and ankles swelled, I clearly needed a comfortable, stylish, slip on shoe (the kind without any heel).
I went to out local Dillards (a store much like Macys, Belks, and the like) and the womans shoe department had a number of Clarks shoes. Beige, Brown, Blue, Black, Suede, Leather ... you name it. And plenty of them I could slip on and off at work. I tried them all on, and they all fit beautifully. What could I do?
I came home that day with 4 pair, 2 suede (beige and blue), 1 black leather, and one dark brown leather loafer type. I even wore one pair out of the store!
Over a year later, the shoes still look great, and I wear then in all types of weather, except heavy snow (they do not have good traction). They wear well with both pants and long skirts, and the colors are basic enough to go with the majority of my wardrobe.
They are extremely comfortable and stylish. I always get compliments on them, especially the dark brown loafers.
I plan on seeing what Clarks has available this season, and am certain I will be coming home with a few new pairs.
