Classmates..what a wonderful movie! this movie deserves to have the name of a malayalam cinema classic!
i saw so many campus based movies , and all of them dealt with cheesy, yucky, romantic love stories.....but Classmates is different..there is romance in the movie..yes...but also
it deals with the politics that happened during the 90’s..it was very informative..
classmates made me think of how unfortunate I am for not studying in a kerala campus... right now I am studying in America...and it sucks here, , , i mean there is so much people...so much professors...we have to do papers everytime and every 2 weeks we have a test...no one knows each other...its very hard for me to even form good friends here...its a stress oriented campus...
i wish I was studying in a campus in india, because I couldve formeed good friends...i couldve joined politics..or I could even have a few love affairs...who doesnt one to have that?? lol...but to all the peoople who are studying in campuses in kerala..you guys are definitly the lucky ones..
okay let me stop the speech..and briefly tell you guys the plot...
the movie starts with a Sukumaran (prihvi raj) beating up satheeshan (jayasurya)..sukumaran is beating the sh** out of satheesan when a girl comes and says Murali (Narien) died in the generator room...then we see Sukumaran waking up from his sleep, because he just saw this in his dream..
Afterwards, we see retired college professor Iyer (Balachandra Menon) and his wife retired Chemistry professor Lakshmi (Shoba Mohan) trying to organize a reunion of the 1991 batch of CMS college, Kottayam. This meeting is also in memory of Murali (Narein) the college singer and their only son who died under mysterious circumstances during his final year.
The 1991 batch agrees to meet as each of them .Murali’s parents want to keep his promise that the batch will meet after 10 years of graduation. The group leader is Sukumaran (Pritviraj), a fiery leader of left student party SFK, now a diamond merchant in MumbaiKanjikuzh, Satheesan I (Jayasurya) led the rival student party DSU and is now an MLA, his right-hand man ‘Vaalu’ Vasu (Vijeesh) is his PA.
Then there is a rich planter’s son Pious George (Indrajeet) who was the college Romeo and a close friend of Sukumaran, now settled in Gulf. There is Thara Kurup (Kavya Madhavan) a well-known classical dancer whose father was a politician and a minister. Thara now runs a dance school and is a spinster still madly in love with Sukumaran. Razia (Radhika) the ‘Penquin’ as she is called for wearing a peculiar kind of burkha is also a part of the gang.
The reunion proves to be fatal as Sukumaran is almost strangled to death with a guitar string tied around his neck. Was it a suicide or a cold blooded murder attempt?
i want to say more..but I will spoil the twist in the story..so go watch the movie..and find out!
all the actors excelled in the movie...they were very brilliant
Prithvi Raj: well after watching this movie, Diver will have to get Prithvi Raj out of the worst actors list..because he was damn good and convincing as sukumaran in the movie...his dialogue delivery improved a whole lot bit...he amazed me because I thought he is the stupidest actor in the world...but I have to change my opinion..his look, his mannerisms, everything was rooted to perfection.
Indrajit: it was a definite change from the police officer and villain characters..as Pious, he stole the show...he should do more comic roles..there is this one scene in this movie, where he hugs this girl when there was a revolt, and the girls smacks him..funny..u guyz gotta c it
Narain: he is very cute guy and he excelled as murali, and there is a scene in the movie where he gets a asthma attack, it was very convincing...i cried!
Jayasurya: well...i hated the guy like anything...but I liked him in this movie..he had a little bit of negative character, and he wasnt overacting at all..
Vijeesh: wow! lost a ton of weight..he looks really young..i wonder how he lost that much weight..i wanna triy it too..gotta get some flab out of this tummy!
Kavya Madhavan: She was very convincing as the snobby thara kurup, she looked very pretty@
Radhika: she is a upcoming actress of the new generation..for a newcomer...she did excellent...she didnt look likke a newcomer at all..watch her stealing the show in the climax scenez!
Jagathi, Balachandra Menon, Anoop. were excellent in the movie
Songs are really great...my favorite is ente kalbile, which I hear in my ipod all the time..its a best song of Vineeth Sreenivasan..dont be surprised if he gets an award for it!
i couldnt believe lal jose directed this movie..i mean he is improving..he made stupid films like patalam, rasikan, chandupottu(Believe me, only Dileep was good in the film)..he made an instant classic..i mean the credit should go to James Albert also!
enough said..Classmates is a well made film and broke the notion that only mammooty and mohanlal could make hit movies and the newcomers can’t! the movie is becoming a big, mega, blockbuster!
