I got a Clay Telecom SIM for use in the US. It was an attractive package. Rs. 3, 000/mo for Unlimited Incoming, and Unlimited outgoing within the US and1500 free minutes to India with 2GB of 3G Data.
The service worked flawlessly. I inserted the SIM upon landing at JFK and was instantly connected both voice and data while still on the taxiway.
I was mainly in the New York City and Connecticut area and once again the service was flawless and no place I visited was out of coverage area.
I have two quibbles.
One. The charges are per calendar month. So, if you have a one week visit straddling a month end you will be charged for 2 full months. I was there for 45 days and straddled just one month end so was ok with it. I’d be less ok if I had straddled 2 month ends and had to pay for 3 months service.
Second. The return procedure was pathetic. I had to spend inordinate amounts of time calling the listed number only to be told to call another number which in turn would not ring. I sent numerous mails, none of which were answered or acknowledged.
I finally got through to a number on the billing advice where the gentleman was kind enough to help me though it was not his area.
In all it took me 12 days to get the company to arrange for a SIM return pickup.
It was an annoying end to an otherwise perfect service.
I will be using their SIMs again for both my wife and myself despite this.
