This book is out of the world. On reading this book you feel that John Grisham is a master at making all his characters feel important in their own right. He has been able to portray the workings of a mind in given circumstances very beautifully. This book is a story about a small boy who sees a man trying to commit suicide. He tries to save the man’s life and in the bargain endangeres his life when the man tries to kill both of them. He is with the man for about 10 minutes or so but is able to make his escape and then watches the man commit suicide. The man is a very known Mafia lawyer who tells the boy about the place where a body of a man murdered by a Mafia Don is buried.
The Boy calls the police and thus becomes the news of the day. Due to which the Mafia gets alert. They think that the boy knows something about the murder. Even though the boy says that he knows nothing about the man who committed suicide. Because if the boy knows about the location of the buried body then it can put the Mafia Don into great trouble and the only way out for the Mafia is to kill the boy before he speaks to somebody. But the boy is very clever he goes and finds himself a lawyer who even though he has no money agrees to become his lawyer on a condition that he pays a fee of 1 dollar. Now the plot becomes interesting as the lawyer and the boy are trying to stay 1 step ahead of the Mafia and the police.
I won’t tell the story ahead because then you probably wouldn’t wish to read the story and this book is a must read. Based on this book there is a movie called The Client which is a very good movie excellent acting and very good direction. So even if you can’t lay your hands on the book pronto then you can check out the movie though compared to the book its second best.
Anyways if you choose to read this book I can guarantee you that you won’t regret your decision.
