If you want breadth of opinion, and comprehensive worldview, CNN is not for you. If you want minority viewpoints other than that championed by the majority of mainstream America, CNN is not for you. If you, however, want mainstream, politically non-controversial news, then CNN is the station for you.
CNN is Cable News Network; an all-news channel you can subscribe to if you are an information addict. But beware; subsisting on CNN dulls the mind, eventually leading to intellectual diarrhea. CNN is not bad, but it is not that great. The main problem is it has is its myopic worldview. CNN primarily focuses on news and events of use to Americans. CNN’s motto should be “Forget about the World, It can Burn, but should America itself Burn, tune in, because we got it covered.” It is this sort of reputation that some accuse CNN of being pro-American, when in truth it is just biased toward reporting headline-grabbing events affecting the US at large.
In terms of product, the news CNN offers is mainstream ho-hum, without much depth to the reporting. One thing CNN is good for, however, is being able to get to where the action is, and the technology to beam the news out. It is no wonder that the CIA relies on CNN so much, some calling it the eyes and ears of the CIA.
For true breadth of product, and to see what is really happening in the world, one must peruse the news sites of the “Beeb” as the BBC is known, or the New York Times. For left-leaning, liberal news reporting, or for little reported news on controversial topics like Palestine, the UK’s Guardian, and France’s Le Monde is useful.
