Sure, nobody knows how really Colombia is. The US media have destroyed Colombia showing the world as the most dangerous country on earth, drug-dealers, terrorism, guerrilla, civil-war ecc ecc ecc. They never show how beautiful the country is, how generous and friendly colombians are, the hundreds of places of interest, the tropical beaches, the good hotels and resorts, the save cities and where you can be save if you visit Colombia, it’s caribbean, andes music, the fantastic landscape, lakes, mountains the delicious food which is not so far from indian as Colombia’s agriculture is much alike. There are so many things and places to see in the country. San Andres Island in the caribbean sea not far from Costa Rica with the emerald sea surrounded by the most beautiful coral reef I have seen, to be compared with Maldives or Gold Coast, Cartagena, the colonial city by the Atlantic sea, Bogotà, a huge capital 2.600meters over the sea level but with a great weather surrounded by the mountains of the ’’cordillera de los Andes’’, a city that offer anything for anytaste and any pocket. Medellin and Cali the other two most important cities in the country, Medellin and it’s clothes-industry, Cali, capital of salsa music and beautiful women.
It is not expensive to fly there, IBERIA, AIR FRANCE, link Europe to Bogotà daily on a 10hour flight, I reccomend to visit Bogotà for a couple of days and then fly to the coast, Cartagena and the island of San Andres. If in case you have more time, don’t miss Cali and Medellin.
Not too many tourists go there and it is good, a lot of people speak english and be sure you will be very welcome, you just have to take some precautions when arriving to a ’’third world’’ country.
Hotels, restaurants, transportation are not expensive at all, very good quality in some places, poor in some others but if you are a traveller, don’t miss it, you will love it !!! and you will go back.
Best time to go is november-march (dry season).
