Cool CO

We reached the Denver Int’l airport as the winter sun was setting. Being my first international trip, I was pretty excited. We kept chatting to each other, pushing our luggage trolleys, as we approached the exit. The door opened and we froze...literally. A blast of freezing breeze stopped us in our tracks instantly. We managed to catch a cab and reach our hotel in Westminster.

The next day, I woke just as the sun was rising. The view from my east facing window was picture perfect. A calm blanket of snow spread over the entire landscape. The saffron rays of the sun were filtered by a leafless tree before they entered my room. I have no idea how long I sat admiring the serene sunrise. I would have been there forever if not for the shrill telephone.

I was told, Colorado is blessed with almost 300 days of sunshine in a year. The snow here is light and glistens in the sun. They call it champagne powder and rightly so. The majestic Rockies laced the landscape. The snow covered peaks filled the horizon, like a fencing around the desert.

Colorado has some good options for the tourist. The factory outlets at Castle Rock are a shopaholic’s disneyland. You can spend days there and enjoy every bit of it. Especially if you happen to be there during the holiday season. Most tourists hit the slopes of Aspen for skiing. Just make sure you dont try to lick the frost (see the movie Dumb and dumber). I have tried ice skating and it was fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the only game of ice hockey I watched here. All in all, you can be sure you wont die of boredom. One word of caution though. Public transport is not quite good. Maybe because most people have their own vehicles and dont use public transport much. So get your car out and zoom away in the mile high city...
