Thanks Sweets_desire for leaving this post. I realize its over a year old but it is still very relevant today. I recently read a study that for international community sites only about 10% of the people take the trouble to write a review(i.e. praising, discussing, or complaining about a product or service). Only another 15% take the trouble to leave a comment / reply.
That means only about 25% of the people coming to a site take the trouble to contribute. Yet, 75% of the people are actively reading and quietly benefitting from the work done by the 25%. Mind you, this is for western sites. In India, and certainly if you look at the number of replies one gets relative to the # of visits, it is not hard to guess that the people contributing are far less. If only a few more people took the trouble to write a reply/comment, it would become so much more valuable for the entire community. So in that sense your post is spot on. However, I wonder what can be done to get people to be more proactive about this matter.
