What’s the right age to get married? Our government says it is 18. In my opinion, it is 14. Now, I can see many frowned faces.
Of all the species, we are the only one that starves sexually after sexual maturity. We bring up moral and ethical defences to support such an issue. After all, we starve sexually to please the gods. So it must be great. Sexual abstinence is considered in many societies from times immemorial a great sacrifice. It’s true because it’s against the nature. In modern societies we practise this to achieve spiritual exaltation.
About a hundred years ago, people thought rightly that the apt age to get married was 12-14. Our grand parents married and led a very long and happy married life. Meeting your spouse when you’re young usually keep the relation powerful.
However, because of socio-economical problems we delay our wedding. We think that it’s best to marry in late twenties or early thirties because it gives financial independence and self-esteem. What kind of married life people lead after that! After living an independent and solitary life until that age. It may be a relation that depends more on intellect than on emotion. It’s no wonder many divorces happen in these times.
In the West dating starts almost at this age and abstinence is not an issue there. But in India the picture is different. Having forced to observe abstinence for about fifteen years, the individual loses some tender feelings for one’s spouse.
But marriage is healthier than dating, especially in this era of HIV.
Although our life expectancy has gone up, the best period in our life is from 12 to 40. To cover up what we have lost, impassive people say that life starts at 40. And what life it is. What is the percentage of people without any ailment at this age?
I think it is healthier and natural to have a spouse from maturity onwards. What do you think?
