Sci-fi at it's most compelling

Let me start by saying that sci-fi is never my first choice when it comes to watching movies...however my darling hubby is a sci-fi nut so I invariably end up watching all of ’em!! And so I was pleasantly surprised by ’’Contact’’!

How could this film not be good? I mean it stars Jodie Foster for Pete’s sake! It tells the story of ’’first contact’’ (hmmm where have I heard that before?!!!) between us and an alien race. Foster plays Ellie Arroway, a scientist who, since a child, has been obsessed with receiving messages from as far away as possible using a CB as a kid, and now using powerful electrical thingies (see how much I know about the techie stuff...scary isn’t it?!) The alien broadcast seems to be a plan for building something mechanical...and that’s where I’m going to leave the plot!!!!

Matthew McConaughey co-stars as Palmer Joss, a religious scholar and adviser to the President, and this brings up a gorgeous sub-plot of science versus religion. The whole film is visually gorgeous, the acting is superb and the plotline outstanding.

’’Contact’’ has got everything I look for in a film; it’s exciting, sad, exhillarating and beautiful. Catch it when you can!
