**Contract** . After a lot of non sense and pathetic’Power Episode’ films, Ram Gopal varma has decided to back on his own territory. RGV told the media that’**Contract’ is a Luc- Besson** Kind of film, Not in the style of a realistic "Satya".So Audience are prepared for an out and out commercial film, A luc besson film.
You will get into the theatre to watch an entertaining film. You are not expecting a realistic film now.So the film starts with Ramu’s favorite bird shots, Street shots etc. It’s a big and relief change for the audience to watch a ramu movie without a dark sepia tone. Aseem Mishra is the cinematographer of the film and his work is realistic [without any hard DI imaging] and yet suit for a thriller.
The premise of the film is "Underworld Meets Terrorism". Movie’s theme is a mix of three films, Govind Nihlani’s’Drohkaal’, Kamal Haasan’s "Kurudhi punal" and "The departed". Ram Gopal Varma put this theme of a fixing a mole in the gang to get the roots of the evil in a skeleton of’light hearted action thriller’. Bangkok portions are so bright and colorful which reminds of De palma’s’Scar Face’ . Both movies are shot in bright sunlight giving up the’noir’ way .
The movie’s protagonist is Aman, an ex- army official who resigned his job after a encounter with a dreaded terrorist.When he gets the terrorist leader Sultan[ Zakir Hussain], sultan speaks propaganda words to brainwash him. It’s a joke that in an’should-be intense’ scene, terrorist speak philosophy to the army captain and brainwashing him in one minute and escapes.If a terrorist can brainwash an officer this fast, he could never have been a Captain.But this never happened to be a problem for me because I know I am watching a’Luc besson’ kind of film. I am prepared by the RGV campaign.
Aman resigns from the job and living happily with his family.One day Officer Ahmed hussain comes to meet him and talk to him about sultan and his plans of Delhi and trying convince him to be a mole in Sultan’s associates. He rejects. But in a bomb blast he looses his family and then he joins with the inspector and after that the movie is his one man army battle against the terrorist systems.
The most brilliant thing about this movie is that We know every scene of this movie. We know what will happen and there is not one scene which you can’t predict. But the way movie is directed is awesome which keep you thinking what will happen next. The arrangements of scenes are good. Ramu’s all unique stuffs are there. Low angle stunts, Extreme-Close ups, bird shot, realistic streets, out of focus [intentionally to make a feel of a documentary].But all of these techniques suit the movie to build the tension.
The idea of a encounter specialist who thinks himself as a hero was good. What was terrific is that he is so comical but in any time he will be an extremely dangerous shooter.The way RD kills him is not very immature than the same kind of scene of "AAG".
The movie has main characters which is based on Dawood Ibrahim and Chotta rajan. RD is Dawood and Gongoo is Chotta. Upendra Limaye literally rocks as Gongoo and the actress who performed as his wife was so good that makes the audience think she is person not an actor who mimic the person.Gongoo is a mix of Tony Montana of scarface minus courage. He lives in a strange but very rich conditions. He lives in a big boat in the sea.He keep moving in the sea that nobody can catch him. He is really becoming tony montana of’scarface’ when he go out with a stun gun manically shoot without any aim.
Ram gopal varma glamorizes RD character so much that he is not showing how RD dies and this giving him a’great image’. When somebody dies, he or she makes comical expressions which kills his greatness in the eye of the viewer[ and that’s visual psychology].
I can’t reveal the complete story. If I do so, there is no point in writing this piece because the film is a thriller. In total, ’Contract’ is the thriller which is in average control of its style and treatment.
