The Coolpad Note 5 Lite is a good offering for those who want a compact device with good basic performance. However, when it comes to any sort of heavy apps or games, the phone struggles — it works well with basic games but load up even slightly intensive games like Crash of Cars and you won’t start to have a good experience.
Performance from the phone is a mixed bag. It works fine for daily use thanks to 3GB RAM — switching between running apps, launching new apps and navigation works seamlessly.
The battery lasted us from 9am to 5pm without an issue, but post that you will need to plug the phone for charging — this is with constant 4G connectivity on the phone.
Thankfully there is no heating problem — it is tuned more for basic use rather than performance.
Trying to keep up with the selfie craze, the Note 5 Lite features an 8MP front camera that has a front LED flash for low light support. The image quality of the camera is grainy and lacks details — in low light, the flash is helpful, but images still suffer from soft details. Moreover, the face detection function failed to work on the phone. On the contrary, the rear camera delivers good results in daylight as well as indoors. The focus and shutter speed is fast and there is minimal visible noise even in photos shot indoors. In low light images, we noticed visible grain and lack of details even though there is a dedicated night mode. For users who like to tweak individual settings, there is a pro mode available too. One big disappointment is that video recording is limited only in 720p HD mode — there is no option of full HD video recording.
