The third movie from the Madhur Bhandarkar stable afterChandni Bar & Page 3, Corporate came with very high expectations. Iwouldn’t say it meets those expectations fully, but it does not disappoint youeither. A tight direction, taut story line and some fabulous performances makethis a very good movie – though not in the league of Page 3!
The story is about two corporate houses fighting tooth &nail to outdo each other – using every trick in the book – and some not in thebook! Raj Babbar and Rajat Kapoor are the two protagonists fighting it out formarket supremacy in the foods industry. Bipasha Basu works for Rajat Kapoor andis in love with KK Menon who is Rajat’s brother in law. The story really isonly this! The movie’s strength lies in the screenplay & its execution.Madhur Bhandarkar has never shied away from controversy and here as well he isat his hard hitting best. Whether it’s Payal Rohtagi playing herself and openlysleeping with the politician for a fee or Bipasha getting a model to sleep witha competitor to get his secrets out – he pulls no punches!
As a result of Bipasha getting this secret out Sehgal Groupof Industries (SGI) – Rajat Kapoor’s group – manages to steal a march on MarwahGroup – Raj Babbar’s company. Raj Babbar then systematically destroys SGI tillRajat calls for truce – in the process sacrificing some people to save his ownskin.
Bipasha as Nishigandha Basu is outstanding. KK Menon has asmall but vital role to which he has done complete justice. However forperformance alone I would give full marks to Rajat Kapoor who as the chief ofSGI has put in a brilliant performance. His mantra is profits to the detrimentof everything else – including relationships. Ethics is a word that does not existin his dictionary & God forbid anybody who tries to cross him. The rest ofthe cast is very good and perfectly matched to their roles.
There are three songs in the movie – well placed – the onethat stands out is the “O Sikandar” number by Kailash Kher.
It’s a hard hitting movie – so even though there are no“Adult Scenes” – it is advisable to not take the kids for this movie.
