Country Club Mumbai is a fraud - dont get trapped

In November 2007, Country Club sales executives took Rs.50000 from me and another Rs.50000 from my friend Mr. Deepak Naware promising life membership and many other benefits (all proposals are in writing and signed by sales manager in Mumbai Shanib Desai). I received receipts for Rs.50000 but Deepak did not receive any receipt although his cheque had cleared.


Until April 30, 2008 we kept waiting for our membership cards but I got mine but Deepak Naware didnt get his. Shanib Desai kept blaming Country Club’s customer care for being overburdened and not issuing membership cards for Deepak Naware. When we received Deepak’s sons card issued with my surname, we asked Shanib Desai’s executive Shivprakash Gupta and he took the card back saying he would have it corrected. The same card was returned after the surname was scratched out. Thats when we knew something was wrong.


On April 30, Deepak Naware and me met Mr. Subba Rao, General Manager MRD, he said he had blocked membership because the papers werent proper. When he showed us our file, we saw all the documents were forged with my signatures and the receipt for Rs.50000 was made in my name - Mr. Subba Rao also said the customer’s copy of the receipt was taken by Shanib Desai who said he would hand it over personally. As mentioned earlier we never received it.


Mr. Subba Rao said that we would have to approach Mr. Rakesh Kumar, General Manager Sales and Marketing to have this sorted out. Since we were no longer interested in the membership 5 months after the money was taken and after seeing the extent of fraud, upon Mr. Subba Rao’s suggestion we applied for a refund, which Mr. Subba Rao assured we would get within 8-10 days.


Another 4 and half months have passed since then and the buck has been passed around from Shanib Desai to Mr. Subba Rao to Mr. Rakesh Kumar and now to the new General Manager Sales and Marketing, Ms. Samina. Now another 10 days have passed since Ms. Samina has said that we would get our refund and now she doesnt answer my calls just like Shanib Desai, Subba Rao and Rakesh Kumar have done for the past 10 months.
