Free SMS

If there is one thing that catches the fancy of most people around the world, it is the word FREE and it has a magical effect on who so ever comes accross it.

In the world of communications SMS has become the de facto standard for shooting off short messages and love notes and trivia like anecdotes and smart alec jokes. So much so, that most cell phone companies actually thrive on these messages for their bread and butter and actually come up with novel ways to enthuse more and more users to sms.

SMS has also evolved a whole new breed of remote Banking services and information seek and delivery mode of communication.

For an avid SMS buff like me, who loves to share smiles and small little anecdotes with my select group of fiends(not friends) SMS ends up costing me a packet. That made me always hunt for free sms sending options.

Earlier it was MTNSMS.com that was a god send. Great site - till it became defunct for Indian networks.

Then tried cell buddy which was quite a relief because it allowed me to store mobile numbers and gave me a remote on my desktop to send bulk sms to a common group of people.

There were others earlier like smspop.com which have since almost become defunct though still online.

Then out of the blue, I one day read about Crazyalert.com on Mouthshut and got hooked on to it. Its a breeze to use and best of all its FREE ! Gee, ain’t that somethin’ ?

It worked on most networks like BPL, Orange and Airtel and had a list of some 30 odd available networks like Escotel etc.

They also have a list of sms shortcut fundas like ’AFAIK’-As far as I know and ’ROTFL’-Rolling on the floor laughing.

Lacks bulk smsing and also lacks storage of regularly smsed numbers. But then thats asking for too much from a free service that has caught on like wild fire.

Oh by the way, its available only on Indian GSM networks. Its an Indian Portal to send SMS to Indian Mobile users on GSM networks.

Here they have hyped on birthdays and anniversary alerts besides some financial fundas like outstanding bill payment dues etc..but who’d wanna get reminded about bills..not me..I have enough of pending outstanding bills to last me a lifetime.

Moreover, I think for birthdays and anniversaries, there is nothing like the Yahoo Calendar, but more about that in some other review.

Also, for the SMS afficionados, you must be aware that all BPL users can be smsed by just typing the mobile number followed by @bplmobile.com and it goes as an SMS from your e-mail to the mobile as an sms. For sending to ORANGE users I suggest you use ICQ. Log on to ICQ.com and download free.

For the present make hay while the sun shines. Send SMS from https://crazyalert.com while its still free - bet you, it won’t last long.

Regards

Raja
