Lazy woman's guide to teeth

I dont know where these Closeup toothpaste guys live ... not the same planet as the morning grouches who’d take an axe to their fellow beings if they had to listen to a chirpy toothbrush first thing. In all the ads, they’re waltzing around the bathroom, not a hair out of place. Did they even go to bed? I’m leaning on the sink half-awake holding on to the tap to stay vertical, and my hair is having nightmares.

The first time I tried an electric one a few years ago, I didnt have great expectations. I just like trying new gadgets, I wasn’t looking for a conversion. And I got HOOKED, big time.

The brush feels bulkier and heavier because of the batteries, and the new feel takes some getting used to. The batteries last a few months, so you aren’t going to need a tax-deduction to maintain the brush. Instead of a completely round head only half the rectangle is replaced by the round rotating head. So you can still brush like with a regular brush, if you want to.

But why would you want to do that ? This is a great device for lazy people. I could definitely live with not moving my hand or head much when I wake up. And, it gets your teeth as squeaky clean as they can get without visiting the Men in White.

So why are so many people still brushing the old way ?

If you get really picky, you could say its more expensive - but compared to what a dentist charges, this is nothing.

And the noise. For such a tiny motor, it makes quite a rrrrrrrrrrrrracket. Sounds like a jackhammer in a quiet house. Not a good thing if you’re hungover from Saturday night. Or there are worse grouches in the house, trying to sleep.

Also, the heads cannot be replaced, like with the chargeable brands. It’s Use-and-throw. So if your toothbrush usually looks like you clean the bathrooms with it, maybe you’re not ready for Spinbrush yet.

What’s the worst that can happen? It can turn itself on rather suddenly. The On/Off switch is an easy sliding one. So occasionally at the airport, it starts whirring from inside your suitcase or carry-on. Airlines panic, your bag gets the full security treatment. You miss your connection. Old women and people with babies are held up while you’re strip searched. And then! your stash of home-grown weed is discovered..nah, just kidding. That will never happen to you. You’re smart, you know better. You’d just empty out the battery compartment, and put the weed in there.

OK, seriously now! If you’ve never tried electric ones, give it a whirrrrrl. Its not too late for some really clean teeth.
