Today I decided I should write something as I felt strongly to write this..But later on found that my internet was not working..So thought of just penning down my views and post it later...
Since Cricket is in the air these days and also Since India and Pakistan are playing together after nearly 14 years in Pakistan, Cricket has to be the subject everywhere.
The test match currently being played is the 50th test match Between INDIAN and Pakistan..So its a special one..But today I m not gonna discuss about the feel good factor which has been discussed by many and also the election campaigning In India has taken cricket as their Voting USP with the feel good factor everywhere..
Now let me not beat around the bush and quickly come to the topic which made me write this review. YEs definitely its about cricket. (no points for guessing that)
This is relating to the much talked about Opening pair of Team India..
Before the match a lot of speculations were going around as to who will open the Innings and the Choice boiled down to two players ..One was the skipper( Sourav Ganguly) who was making a comeback after two tests which he had missed due to a back injury and the other was the person who played in the absence of the Skipper, Yuvraj Singh..Though the coach John Wright gave a slight hint as they would eye on a non specialist opener but no one gave much importance to his words when the skipper himself said that It was either going to be HIM or Yuvraj who will open the innings for India.
But what we see On the match day..Parthiv patel ( wicket keeper) being given the Job of opening the innings..The skipper who is sometimes referred to as the Old Fox especially after dealing with the Australians both in Indian backyard and also in Their own backyard proved why he is called so By even foxing the PRESS..
Now we all know the decision was a success since Parthiv scored 69 and gave a good stand to Rahul Dravid although Virendra sehwag was out first ball of the innings, But still What I wanna argue is ’’WAS THE DECISION THE RIGHT ONE’’. I know many will not agree with what I say just coz the decision worked in India’s favour...no doubt about it..But what I wanna say is ’’ WAS THAT THE REASON WHY AAKASH CHOPRA WAS MADE TO SIT OUT OF THIS MATCH’’..
I will just put forth my views one by one ..I dont say they are 100% rite but thats what I feel..
WAS Parthiv given an opening slot coz Indias opening partnership was not doing well?
Agreed..that Yuvraj & Saurav are better players but then why didn’t they open the innings if they r so better..
IF Yuvraj was a replacement for Aakash Chopra in this match he should have proved himself by opening the innings that he can play his natural game in the opening as well..
Whats the Point in sending Parthiv as an opening batsman..what has he to prove ..THAT HE IS BETTER THAN AAKASH CHOPRA OR HE IS BETTER THAN SOURAV AND YUVRAJ as an opener..
The middle order batsman play better when the shine is taken off the new ball..The real challenge is to play the ball when its fairly new..IF Yuvraj or Sourav wanted to prove a point then they should have come as opener and not hide behind and wait for the non regular opener to see off the new ball.
Thats the reason why I feel it has been a great injustice to Aakash Chopra..I agree he is a slow starter but he dare to open the innings and that too along with a flourishing batsman at the other end..I would have been Happy IF Yuvraj or Sourav had come to Open the innings and WOuld have justified the change made..
Well I dont wanna crib about it anymore as INDIA is in a good position and thats what we want (TEAM INDIA TO CLINCH THE SERIES) but at the same time we should play fair and not hurt any soul..
