This is one of my favourite films of all time!
Heres a quick summary: It’s the story of rich half-siblings Sebastian (Ryan Phillipe) and Katherine (Sarah Michelle Geller).
Bored with the urban, ultra sophisticated society in which they live they make a wager over whether Sebastian can get the virginal headmasters daughter (Reece Witherspoon) into bed with him.
This an excellent tale of sex, manipulation, love and greed, and tackles all of these major themes supremely well, it definitely makes you think long after the film has finished.
The acting is superb from all characters not just the three main characters within the tale but also more periphery characters and unlike many other films this film had no ’weak link’ actor or actress letting the film down.
The many plots often intertwine with each other and each character effects every other character. Although the plots are intertwined the film is so cleverly directed and put together that it does not become confusing at any point.
There are also several unexpected twists throughout the film and it always leaves you wondering whose really pulling the strings? Its not all beautiful people and sex, which is what I like about the film.
The ending is very unpredictable and leaves you feeling a little sad but at the same time very satisfied, the film is ultimately well resolved, and does not leave you wondering, well what happened about that? with all the intertwining plots being drawn to a good close.
This is an excellent tale, which highlights how people can become desensitised towards the world around them, almost emotionless and how ultimately everyone manipulates everyone else for there own benefit whether it be money, companionship, sex, love or material gains.
Overall a slick and sassy film with many important moral messages which manages to remain entertaining at all times and leaves you mulling things over long after the film itself is over. Excellent.
