Cryptic writings on the wall

’’ If Heavy Metal is like cannons going off, Megadeth is Napalm’’

’’ They were truly angry young men’’- Alice cooper, Dave’s godfather

Megadeth is without doubt the greatest thrash metal band of all times. even when bands like metallica have completely lost it and they are making albums like St. Anger, Megadeth has maintained the quality of it’s music and stuck to thier mission of being the most dangerous band of the planet. ’’Cryptic Writings’’ is one of the most famous albums of Megadeth, The disc went platinum I think, anyways it is the music that matters.

Cryptic Writings is a mixture of thrash metal and pop, a blend that is so perfect that the final result is simply superb. The album has a total of sixteen tracks, of which a few are just alternate versions of the same song, for example there is the spanish version of Trust and the alternate version of Vortex. It is an amazing album and the music is awesome.

The Band: Megadeth

The Members of the band: the best megadeth line up ever

1) Dave Mustaine: Lead Vocals, Rhythm, Lead and Acoustic Guitars

2) Marty Friedman: Lead Guitar

3) David Ellefson: Bass Guitar

4) Nick Menza: Drums

The Album: Cryptic Writings

1) Trust:

Every Megadeth fan has to agree that this is one hell of an awesome song. Everything about this song is simply perfect. The way the song starts with Nick Menza on the drums( One Hell of a drum solo), and then the guitars just get louder and louder until your years explode. The song is about a painful relationship. I just love the lyrics of the song. ’’we, lied to each other so much, that in nothing we trust’’, makes a lot of sense doesn’t it. in the middle of the song Dave starts to talking, and the talking breaks into what can be described as a skull cracking riff. Nick Menza’s drumming is what deserves the highest amount of praise. I have to say that this is the best song in this album, not that the rest are bad, they are all awesome.

2) Almost Honest:

almost honest is a pretty good song, even though it is not comparable to the likes of trust or she wolf. it is about a guy who gets into a relationship with a girl, even though he doesn’t love her. somehow the girl learns about it and leaves him. The guy realises then, that he has fallen in love with her, so he was almost honest.Marty Friedman says this is his favourite song in this album. his guitar solo in the song is really good. marty friedman said he had used a MXR phase 90 pedal for the solo. this is an ok okay song, I usually don’t listen to this song.

3)Use The Man:

I saw her today, I saw her face

It was the face of love, and I knew

I had to run away

And get down on my knees and pray, that they go away

And still it begins, needles and pins

these are the starting lines of the songs, they were taken from the song, ’’Needles and Pins’’ by the ramones. The song is about a guy who wanted to try heroin, but then he has an overdose and dies. Dave visited this guys apartment and saw that he was a musician, he had written songs and had a lot of things planned. The song is my favourite in the album. it appeals to you immediately. The lyrics are simple and yet very effective,

just one shot to say goodbye

one last taste to mourn and cry

scores and shoots the lights go dim

took one shot to do him in

that’s right, just one shot is enough to do the damage. The interesting part of this song is that, the first time I was listening to this song, I was with a guy who was smoking a cigarette with marijuana and cracks, ’’the fireball’’, he called it. all of you who think drugs are cool have to listen to this song, you will just die if you do drugs.

4) Mastermind:

The song is about how people are addicted to the computer, it is like they are being programmed by the computer. I like the bass in the starting of the song, the riffs are pretty heavy, and the solo is very Megadeth. I don’t listen to this song at all. listened to it today for the first time as I had to write about it. it does sound ok, sort of like almost honest.

5) The Disintegrators:

A high intensity Thrash metal song.

The slayer’s arrived

On the black horse of steel

Trouble is coming

Hell on two wheels

Dave is talking about a cruiser bike here. apparently this one time when he was stuck in traffic, he saw this group of bikers who went around destroying everything

6) I’ll Get Even

7) Sin

don’t know muc about these songs, I don’t listen to them

8) Secret Place:

The secret place is in DAve’s head. he likes to spend some time all alone with his thoughts. The song has an amazing start with marty friedman on the sitar guitar, very different from the usual megadeth songs.

9) Have Cool Will Travel: Don’t listen to it

10) She Wolf:

now this is a song that you have to talk about. the lyrics of the song are simply superb. this song can be declared as the misogynist’s anthem. ’’the mother of all that’s evil, her lips are poisonous venom’’, very powerful lyrics, amazing solo in the end.

11) Vortex:

a good song, I couldn’t really interpret what dave is trying to say in this song, good for the riffs and solos

12) FFF:

Fight For Freedom, is pure thrash. but if you listen closely, the starting riff is a take off of motorbreath by metallica.
