Hello Friends!!
When did you last have an uninterrupted, stable internet connection, the chances are you might not be able to recall, dont lose heart. I will provide you with some of the coolest ways to tweak your modem for optimal performance.
Firstly, it is important that you check the modem chipset.
some of the common chipsets are the following
1)Motorola SM56
2)HSP
3)Lucent modem chipset
I am giving details only about the motorola modem for now.
1)Motorola sm56
The motorola sm 56 chipset is the most popular chipset.
Here are few init strings that you could try
The Motorolla SM56 Modem also has problems while trying to connect to a dialup server. It disconnects shortly after establishing a connection. Here are a few init strings to try:
+ms=v34 (connects at 33600 BPS)
+ms=k56flex, 1, 300, 44000, 300, 44000
try these
Modem Speed: 9600bps
Command: %B6
Modem Speed: 14400bps
Command: %B9
Modem Speed: 28800bps
Command: %B16
Modem Speed: 33600bps
Command: %B18
The above information is a bit cryptic for a novice, just remember the Command values...
This string has been tested and it works fine, it always connects at 33.6kbps, this is the optimal speed with stable connection.
AT&F%B18 (Set connection speed to 33600bps)
Note: add values excluding the quotes
Q.Where Do I put these strings??
Ans: Its very simlple
Follow these simple steps...
step1) Goto start->settings->control panel.
step2) Click on the modems icon.
step3) Select your modem type in the list and click properties.
step4) Goto Connection tab in the modem properties.
step5) You will find two options
a) Port settings
b) Advanced settings
step6) Click on the advanced settings and add the init strings in the extra
settings box.
add this string:- AT&F%B18
there you are!! its done just connect and have fun
*Note:- Most modems claim to connect at higher speeds but thats not true. A lot depends on the dialup connection and the ISP. What I have found is that the ideal connection speed for stable connections is 33.6kbps. However most modems show different connection speeds when connected...
Still facing problems???
just comment!!
