Tough times show us true colors too...

I worked at D.P. AHUJA full-time, from 2012 - 2014

Pros

Though I got a job in this company in my tough times, the company turned out to be the worst experience.

Cons

1) The law firm got some excellent clientele but as promised in the interview, myself as a web designer I had no opportunity to work with any of such projects.

2) My work was more of DTP guy(with due respect to the profession), rather than a visual designer.

3) The offer letter promises a rise of 20% hike on the first year of joining, 15% on the second year and flat 10% in the consecutive years of employment tenure. However, there had not been any increment in 2012 and 2013, however in 2014 when there was actually a hike, it was 2% on the perquisites and not the basic.

4) The offer letter says that you are entitled to 17 leaves, out of which 10 days are annual leaves. However, you have to forget the seven more leaves and be contented with just 10 days annual leave and that too if you can make it by eight days, only then you are entitled for the Travelling Allowance. Thus, the company has no clear cut leave policies.

5) You can never take leaves even on emergencies and there is a threat of getting terminated.

6) There are no prospect scopes or promotions for non-legal engagements in the firm, i.e., Information Technology, Visual Designing, Administration.

7) The behavior of the proprietor and his management towards the employees are inhuman.

8) Since its a proprietary firm, you are not supposed to ask a question on the management, as that comes with your termination.

9) The policies of the company change from time to time to benefit itself and no consideration for the employee impact.

10) Often the responsibilities of a department is forced on another department, irrespective of the fact that the department might not have the skill to perform in the domain and that their delay would delay the salary for the month and that if something goes wrong, Rs. 5000/- is directly deducted from the salaries, as a fine.

11) Unnecessary delay in payment of salary every month and they proclaim, NO WORK.NO PAY.

12)You have to ease yourself with the poor quality and quantity of lunch in the canteen and that you cannot protest for getting terminated. Lunches can be brought from home but that will deprive you from the firm’s social events.

13) Company gifts and incentives are given to a selected few and others are deprived.

14) Ten hours of working, including Saturday(till 3 o’clock).

15) The proprietor divides people’s categories according to their grades in the company and that they are sent to restaurants selected for each grade. That gives rise to low morale among the employees.

16) There is a particular rate for the canteen meals for people earning below and above Rs. 20, 000 and thus you come to know your worth in the humility of the company.

17) It is the proprietor’s discretion as to what would be your wearable on a particular office occasion, if otherwise, you will be asked to leave the venue, immediately.

18) Treatment towards the female employees are worse until they go to the extent of moving beyond honor to sustain the job and tag their over proclaimed lifestyle.

Thus, D. P. Ahuja & Co., is a living hell and that people in here work till an opportunity strikes them by luck, as the job scenario in Kolkata, West Bengal is getting worse day by day.
