With Digitization becoming compulsory, people are jumping to the DTH bandwagon more than ever before.
Of all the carriers out there I chose to go with Videocon HD when I relocated to Bangalore.
Earlier Experience:
1.DISHTV SD - Back in New Delhi, I used DISHTV HD, Used to pay 400 Rs per month for their Super Platinum Pack.
Was never happy with this, absolute crap picture quality on my roommate’s 32 inch LCD. Nothing much to write about their services.
2.AIRTEL IPTV: Had this in Noida, although this had limited number of channels and was not HD, it provided the feature of watching programs on a few channels for the previous week. Plus, rains do not affect this service.
3.AIRTEL: Have the SD connection in Guwahati, very impressive for an SD connection but way too expensive. 441 Rs per month.
Why Videocon HD?
After around a week of research, It wasn’t too difficult to arrive at this buying decision. In the HD sector, Videocon HD represents best value for money.
At 480 Rs per month they are giving away 22 True HD channels(the highest in India) with all the other SD channels and a host of active services, This comes under the Platinum HD pack.
Some like DISHTV may claim they have 50 HD channels but do not fall prey to these tall claims as most of those channels are upscaled versions of SD content. India has only 22 HD channels and Videocon is the only service offering all of them.
Look at the other so called market leaders in this DTH segment:
Airtel, you pay Rs 563 for the Magnum pack plus 150 for HD Access of just 15 HD channels. Do the math, is it worth it?
DISHTV, the less spoken about these guys the better. HD ROYALE Pack for Rs 599 with 39 HD channels which include MTV, VH1 and AXN among other fake HD channels! Do a Google search, you will know HD versions of these channels don’t even exist.
TATASKY - Their highest package(Grand Sports)is charged at 410 per month with 12 HD channels only. Remember this pack has just 127 SD channels and an HD access fee of Rs 100 has to be also paid per month. You may find some important channels missing and would have to take other add-ons thus, leading to complications and a further large cable bill.
Also, Videocon HD is the only provider to be 3D ready and has a functioning 3D channel(NGC 3D). The best part about this channel is that it is absolutely free and keeps running even when your a/c balance has exhausted. Videocon HD’s UI is also pretty impressive and I particularly enjoy their little customizable Ticker app which helps me keep up to date with news from various sectors when I am watching something else.
It is pretty obvious, none of the competitors can compete with Videocon HD in terms of pricing and no. of HD channels. If you are looking for a service in which you dont have to keep buying add ons, Videocon HD is the right DTH for you.
