This is a biographical Sports Drama film based on India’s first female wrestler to win 2010 commonwealth games, Geeta Phogat, Eldest daughter of Mahavir Singh Phogat and winner of 55kg gold medal. Mahavir taught their daughters wrestling for his innermost ambition for gold medal for wrestling that he always wanted from his future son. But due to the birth of daughters, he gave up dreaming further about it. But when situation turns out to make him think that his daughters can even earn the gold medals for india. So this phenomenon developed his intentions for the training and the journey for wrestling begins.
The movie stars Aamir Khan, Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Zaira Wasim, Sanya Malhotra, Suhani Bhatnagar, Girish Kulkarni, etc.
Aamir portray the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat very beautifully like he always do for the other roles. He experimented this role successfully for the first time in industry. Another characters equally maintained the decorum of the movie and Zaira and Suhani unexpectedly shown the perseverance for the roles of younger Geeta and Babita respectively. After Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Sultan this film has contributed the great and massive ambition and aggression for sports. This has influenced large amount of audience over the country.
In March 2015 Taapsee Pannu, Deeksha Seth and Akshara Haasan were being considered for the roles of Khan’s on-screen daughters.In April 2015, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra were cast as the daughters, who hailed from the Jat community of Balali village of Bhiwani, Haryana.Geeta Phogat had participated in the London Olympics in 2012. Babita won gold in 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. In June 2015, child actors Zaira Wasim(from Kashmir) and Suhani Bhatnagar(from Delhi) were roped in for Dangal. Ayushmann Khurrana’s brother Aparshakti Khurrana was also cast. Mukesh Chhabra was the casting director of Dangal. Vikram Singh was recruited to play the role of the villain.
Dangal was released in the United States on 21 December 2016 and worldwide on 23 December 2016. The film was shown on an estimated 4300 screens in India and 1000 screens internationally
