An experimental movie, a horror, Ramgopal Varma associated with it, expectations=gigantic, result=laughter? After watching this movie, one cannot help but laugh at it. Ok, firstly lets get the main story over with. The film begins with 7 friends on their way to a party, while travelling on a isolated road, the tyre punctures and the 6 friends seek refuge in an abondened shelter, while one friend stays in the car. After much discussion, the friends begin to tell each other stories, either they made up or heard of. First story is how a newly married couples (Sohail Khan, Antara Mali) car also breaks down and experience strange happenings in the forest. Second story is of a smoking fashion photographer (Saif Ali Khan) who after travelling a lot, decides to stay in at a hotel, only to discover that the owner (Boman Irani) is a hell bound on people smoking and will do anything to make them quit. Thrid story revolves around a teacher (Raghuvir Yadav) who discovers a student of his suddenly doing all her homework, when before she never did one, this relates to his unbearable past his has. After the interval there are still 4 stories to go, yes four, as the group of friends are also in one, after each story is told, one friend has decided to leave the shelter, and experience an unfortunante end. Fourth story is how a middle class wife buys some cheaper apples, which go even cheaper after the vendor (Rajpal Yadav) sells them, she sences something wrong with them and tries to stop her husband (Sanjay Kapoor) from eating them, but she does not realise how dangerous the apples are. Fifth story is about a man (Vivek Oberoi) giving a lift to a stranger (Nana Patekar) only to discover he claims to be a ghost, the conversations between the two go on, and you they discover more than they intended to. The final story the group tell is about a student (Aftab Shivdasani) who is ignored and rejected by everyone, even his love (Isha Koppikar) and doesnt have the courage to commit suicide, but one day after asking God, he miraculaously recieves powers to stop people. Right thats the story, and the viewer also gets to witness the on goings of the friends. The good things about the movie are that yes it is different from typical bollywood movies, the performances are relatively good, and some of the stories do remain in the viewers mind. The best story by far is the Nana Patekar and Vivek Oberoi one, which is just a conversation, but a lot more realistic, or so it would seem. The background sound is superb, camera effects are good as the Blair Witch style is used at times, and ofcourse having no songs in it is a bonus, as it dont deserve to. But despite all this, the viewer is still left dissappointed. None of the stories scare the viewer as was the case with Bhoot, i, foolish enough expected it to be much better, but those expectations were miserably put down. The stories are very unrealistic, and the apple story I just laughed out loud when it finished, aswel as the stopping people one. The climax is very dissapointing, as one did expect atleast the main story to be quite terryfying, but ends up being quite tense and finished in no time. Performances that stand out are by Nana Patekar, Vivek Oberoi, Shilpa Shetty in her ridiculous story did do well, the mad hotel owner Boman Irani was very impressive and Aftab Shivdasani does make some impact. Sameera Reddy as one of the friends does stand out and did well too. But one STILL feels something missing from the movie, I personally promoted the film to all my family and friends, and now am warning them not to watch it. I know the title suggest not to be scared, but I didnt realise it would go to lengths as to not make it scary and just laugh at it. Its worth a watch if you want to see something different, which I did, and not expect much, which I didnt, something that will remind you of the children series Are You Afraid Of The Dark and Goosebumps. Lets just hope the sequel, Darna Zaroori Hai, is more satisfying.
