Hello to Humurous Horror !

There are two kinds of movie viewers in this world.. One who go for the movie to satisfy their senses .. The other who go for the movie to satisfy their critical sense..

I can blindly say that I belong to the former ~ Thus the rating.

Darna Zaroori Hain is the RGV sequel to Darna Mana Hain.. Perhaps no movie in the recent movie had as many mixed views as Darna Mana Hai.. Some said that its just sheer foolery to induce humour in movies with a scary notion.. Some said that this is a better way to make horror movies.. It was kind of the Indian version of the scary movies.. So keeping all my critical senses at bay lets begin the review of Darna Zaroori Hain..

The Review

DZH just like Darna Mana Hain has a huge cast which I guess is pretty evident from the promos.. This time there is a total of 7 stories involved in the movie. The reason why I say 7 stories will be revealed later. All seven stories have been directed by seven different directors.. A kind of a first for Hindi Cinema. The casting is shown in typical Ram Gopal Varma style with an item number.

The item number unlike Darna Marna Hain this time is only passable. The big names this time in the Directors bench this time are Sajid Khan, Jijy Phillips of My Wife’s Murder’s fame and the man himself Ram Gopal Varma.. The film starts with Sajid’s story followed by the casting.. Sajid’s story is a great launch pad for what is to follow.. Next what is shown is not something very new.. Same old Kids in a Haunted House stuff.. Some scary looking Old Woman comes to the children and offers them shelter.. One of the many over smart kids challenges our Bhootni that nothing on earth can scare him to which she replies Darna Zaroori Hain and then goes on to narrate 5 stories.. What follows next is a synopsis of 7 stories.

Story One by Sajid Khan

This is the first story of the movie.. It starts with an obese son (Manoj Pahwa) getting ready to go for the night show of Darna Mana Hain.. His mom tries to stop him as it he was going to the movie theatre by taking a shortcut through the graveyard. He mocks his mom and decides to go to the movie despite repeated warnings as it was Amavas Ki Raat ! On his way to the movie through the graveyard he constantly mocks the graves and goes about spitting every inch possible.. Finally he reaches the theatre.. During the next five minutes we are shown the reason for his obese ness.. his never ending hunger for ---- (food)! While returning he hears a constant jingle of payals and runs.. Suddenly he sees a ghostly figure and dies out of a

heart attack.

Analysis Manoj was fantastic as the obese man. One of the best stories of the movie.. You can trust Sajid Khan to surprise you when you’re least prepared.. The ending is fantastic.. The acting all over is top-class.. So what you’re waiting for.. How was the ghostly figure? From where did those jingles come ? Was it the spirit? Or was it something else? To find the answer to these never ending questions watch Darna Zaroori Hain

Story Two by Ram Gopal Varma

This is perhaps the weakest story in the movie.. With actors with the caliber of Amitabh Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh you feel that that RGV has not done full justice to their skills.. A student (Riteish) goes to his Professor (Amitabh Bachchan) to learn Science.. What follows next is nothing but a series of so called scary sound effects.. The professor claims that he always sees someone in the house who wants to be like him and wants to behave like him... Riteish obviously is scared and wants to go away.. Suddenly Amitabh points to the mirror.. What Riteish sees next is...

Analysis Amitabh is hugely wasted here.. RGV fails to make an impact with this one.. Riteish again comes up with a decent performance.. The only plus point is the background score of this one... Most of the time you fail to understand what Amitabh is trying to say amidst the rush of words.. Riteish tries his level best to appear scared! The question is what does Riteish see in the mirror? Who was Amitabh talking about? Was he joking? To know the answer watch Darna Zaroori Hain

Story Three by Prawal Raman This one stars Arjun Rampal, the sultry Bipasha Basu and the highly potential Makrand Deshpande. Based on the lines of the Nana Patekar and Vivek Oberoi story of Darna Mana Hain, this one almost delivers.. The story is one night Arjun very predictably gets a car-break down and goes to Bips house for shelter.. There in her usual seductive way she tries do a la’ Jism and very happily informs Arjun that her husband is dead.. Later her husband appears and pretends that its Bipasha who is dead! This goes on and on till they make a fool of Arjun. Later her husband (Makrand Deshpande) plays plan Chet and then there’s the usual “Kya Aatmayein Wakei Main Hoti Hain?” talk! What happens next is anyone’s guess

Analysis All actors give a power packed performance. Bipasha and Arjun look good together. Cant say the same about Makrand though! Directed by Prawal Raman this is quite a predictable one for those who have seen Darna Mana Hain.. Well what happens when the pay Plan Chet? Do the Aatmas really exist or it was some sort of a joke played by Makrand? To find it out watch Darna Zaroori Hain

Story Four by Vivek Shah Next up is the Sunil Shetty, Rajpal Yadav and Sonali Kulkarni story of ‘Accidents’ ... Perhaps the weakest story in the whole movie.. One night Rajpal Yadav comes to Sunil’s house with an insurance policy.. The most annoying factor in perhaps the whole story was that Rajpal Yadav started to act strange seeing banana’s when later it was revealed that there was nothing special either about him or the bananas! During the stage of discussion with Sunil about the Insurance Policy he keeps on repeating that “Haadse Kabhi Bhi Ho Sakte Hain”.. Later when Sunil picks up a fight with Rajpal in order to throw him out he shoots him !

Analysis Weak direction and story by Vivek Shah. Rajpal is completely over the top. Sunil Shetty is passable. The biggest blunder in the in the story is the story itself.. Completely baseless and avoidable.

What happens when Sunil shoots Rajpal .. is he really dead or was the gun a gimmick ? Watch Darna Zaroori Hain to find it out..

Story Five by Jijy Philips This story is a dig at the Karan Johar and Yash Chopra kind of cinema..Anil aptly plays Karan Chopra (yes you heard it right!). He decides to direct a horror movie and then goes to the some house of his in Khandala. On his way he offers lift to a ‘oh so hot’ Mallika Sherawat.. Again like the Vivek~ Nana story in Darna Mana Hain, Mallika says that she is dead and scares Anil.

On reaching the villa at Khandala Mallika again starts her “main bhoot hoon” but this time the impact is bigger .. Anil dies out of a heart attack..

Analysis Good direction by the hugely potential Jijy Philips. Anil Kapoor looks reminiscent of his Taal look. Mallika is pretty decent this time. Basically the sleaze factor works this time coupled with good acting from Anil. His look is very ‘Sanjay Gupta’ type. What happens next.. Who is Mallika? Is Anil really dead? To find out.. Yes you guessed it watch Darna Zaroori Hain
