Dasavatharams music is composed by Himesh Reshamiyya. This is his first Tamil movie. and the music is good.
#1: Ulaganayagan - Vinith
This is a song eulogising Kamal. This is a fast paced song with good beats. The lyrics is a mix of Tamil and English. Songs like this are better suited in Rajinikanth or Vijayakanth movies. It will be interesting to see how it fits in this movie.
*#2: Kalai Mattum - Hariharan
*This is the best song of the album. I think it will be a visual treat to see this song in the movie. It seems to be the most important song of the movie. Very good lyrics and that is a good enough reason to listen to it multiple times.
*#3: Oh Sanam - Kamal & Mahalakshmi
*I was humming this song all day after listening to it a couple of times. It is fast paced and has peppy music with a tinge of Bangra. I am guessing that the dance for this song will be good and it will be a treat to see it in the movie.
#4: Mukunda - Sadhana Sargam
Mukunda is a devotional song. It is very soothing to the ears and it took me back in time when I listened to it. Each time I listened to it, I liked it more. I would have preferred someone else singing this song instead of Sadhana sargam. Also, the last bit of the song could have been edited out from the audio. The final bit spoils the mood.
*#5: Kaa Karuppanukkum -Shalini Singh
*This seems to be a song picturized on Mallika in a disco. The beats are fast paced. It did not leave me with any feeling. However, I doubt if anyone will remember this song when the movie ends. Unless this song is linked to the story, this is going to act as a speed breaker in the movie. just like "Neruppu" in Vettayadu Vilayaadu.
#6: Oh Sanam - Himesh & Mahalakshmi
This is a repeat of the song with the same title sung by Kamal. I dont think this will make it beyond the audio and find a place in the movie. They probably included it to give some extra value to the audio.
My Opinion
My assessment of the audio of Dasavatharam is that it is very nice and worth multiple hearing. It is certainly not a mind blowing masterpeice or anything out of the world but it is the best of 2008.
4/6 songs are hummable and tempt you to shake a leg or two. The lyrics for "Kallai mattum kandal" is worth mentioning. I have a feeling that the songs will be more effective along with the movie.
The music will be a hit but it will not be a classic. It may be forgotten by next year. just like the music of Sivaji or any other movie.
Looking forward to the movie!
