If you are a Dave Barry fan, you ought to have read this book. If you have not, get yourself this amazing piece of work!
Well, the title of the book is pretty misleading, but this a fantastically hilarious chronicle of the American History. As Dave mentions in his foreword, the more you know about American History, the funnier it gets.
The author essentially picks up all the important events that shaped America, adds his own twists, inferences, mixes up the past and the present and gives you a concoction that is sure to leave you crying with laughter. Dave makes some interesting/hilarious presumptions at the beginning and uses superbly throughout the book. He uses an astounding idea to simplify historical dates. This he claims would resolve the problem that plagues many monotonous History books. What is this idea? Folks, you need to be reading the book to glean this idea.
The book chronicles events from pre-colonial times right through the revolution to current times. Every chapter ends with a series of thought provoking (to say the least) questions. He is one author who can present two totally unrelated statements and still make you read between the lines and laugh.
All in all, a fantastic book!! A MUST READ
I hope all you folks in this group get a chance to read this book. I am dying to discuss my favorite bits of the book.
For those who haven?t heard much about Dave Barry, he?s a columnist for Miami Herald, winner of Pulitzer prize and people who liked Wodehouse and Doug Adams would like him too.
