Friendship Or Love?

We have heard a lot of love stories.  A lot of friendship stories too.  Friendship turn to love, friends turned lovers.   Not telling love, friend somebody else not realizing the mind of close friend, sacrifice…De Taali is one such story.  So, what is new in it?  Infact not much but there are three factors work for the film, one - such stories are a rare scene in mainstream bollywood movies now a days, (thanks to aged heroes of bollywood and ageless star status).   Two, the story is told in an entertaining way.  Three: there is less expectation from the film.

Abhi (Afatab Shivdasani), Amu (Ayesha Takia) and Paglu (Ritesh Deshmukh) are close friends.    Abhi is easily gullible and girls are his weakness.  The number of ex-girl friends he had stands at 31 when the film starts.  Amu works in the company owned by Abhi’s father (Anupam Kher) and an efficient department head.  Abhi’s father sees a future daughter in law in Amu.  Paglu, hiding his love to Amu suggest the same and Amu start dreaming.   When Abhi named Karthika, AKA Anjali (Rimi Sen) as his girl to whom he will marry Amu’s dream got shattered.  However, Paglu insisted that she should not drop her dreams that easily.  Watch the movie to know how things turned up after this.

The movie is a pleasant watch.   Frames are rich and locales are beautiful.  The treatment of the friendship is the highlight of the movie.  The movie has a bundle of drawbacks but when we don’t take it seriously it don’t hinder our enjoyment.  The movie was quite good in the first half but the second half turned to be a disaster like Deewana Hua Pagal.   I think the Rimi girl’s earlier track record of getting chased by many at a time spoiled the show and when the pagal lovers start following her people start their laughing and talking all the way, .   I thought the DHP track should have been completely avoided so is the family background of Karthika.   She is a smart girl who cannot have such a background - impossible to accept.  But I think the writers took a clue from Hera Pheri here.   The Director (E Niwas) is successful to a certain degree, in utilizing his cast and crew, though I will not say the same when it come to script.

The show completely steals by Ayesha Takia with her brilliant performance.   Her parrot like look and talk gives a special impression.   Fantastic!   Good to see Aftab Shivdasani after quite some time.   He is good, but could have been better.  RiteshDeshmukh is in his usual style and did a fine job.   Rimi Sen remain the same confident and pleasant, Hot and spicy.   is sexy in her own style.  Anupam Kher is reduced to small role but his and Saurabh Sukla’s presence added value to the film though on a lighter way.

Music is another plus factor for the film.  Aaj main boond hu…is really brilliant with words and music.   The ’Taali’ number is hummable and good.   Choreography is Superb in many parts.   There are thoughts applied and the choreographers tried to find new visuals and experimented which is showing a positive results in many parts.   Cinematography is very good.  Editing could have been better.  Promotion of the film could have been little more aggressive.

Overall, De Taali is an enjoyable love story in the first half and part of second half and somewhat enjoyable in parts of the 2nd half.    It is not a serious kind movie, nor one to watch with brain. If you like Ayesha Takia you should not miss the movie she got a meatier role in it.   Recommend for a single watch.  Youngsters will like it more.
