Mr Anand Kishore was driving from Delhi to Chandigarh, alone in his car. It was past midnight. He was a man of guts who dared to drive alone at the age of 52 that too at night. He was too excited to wait until morning as his only daughter had given birth to her first child. He was in a hurry. Suddenly he felt pain in his left arm. He didn’t care as he was used to gastric troubles and thought it to be one of those.
The pain grew and spread to his chest. He wanted to stop for a while but the roads were full of big speeding trucks and there was no dhaba around. Slowly he could feel the trickles of sweat rolling down his forehead and neck. He started shivering with cold and the chest pain also became excruciating. He suddenly stopped his car. He was trying to breath but could not. He gasped for air. He couldn’t tolerate the pain now. It happened so fast that he could not realise it was a heart attack.......The very next day he was found dead in his car by some locals ....He didn’t get time to call his daughter or to stop any of the speeding trucks for help....he felt too week to do that.
This can happen to anyone of us.....at any time......in any situation......at any place where no ones around to help.
But theres a way to tackle it all alone. Yes! You can have a self CPR done. Let’s see how.............
Once you have the symptoms mentioned above....immediately realise the possibility of having a heart attack. Stop wherever you are. Loosen up your clothes and move to an open and airy place. Start taking long breaths as you do when doctor examines you with stethoscope. To start the self CPR first relax and think you can do it. Count 3 and start coughing hard....This would put same pressure on your heart as someone elses hands would do during CPR. Cough 10 times. Then take long breaths. This would help your lungs to pump extra oxygen to your heart so that it can cope up with the attack. Count 10 and again cough hard.
Repeat the above mentioned cycle until you start feeling normal. After getting normal don’t rush. Just relax at the same place for sometime and then move to a place where you expect some help.
I hope the above mentioned method proves to be helpful; however I pray that none of us ever have to face as such situation.
