School Days

For my review on this subject I am going to write about high school rather than college.

Going to school was a lot easier when I was in high school. Back then we had much longer days and more time to learn. We also had study periods which I used to do homework in rather than have to tie up my evening doing it. There were also a lot less children in one class than there are now and that meant more individual attention could be given to the students.

We did not have as many pressures as a teen does these days.

A teenager can feel much pressure in many ways. Here the school day is only 5 hours long and the schools are over crowded. They have to learn a lot more in less time and with less help and the amount of homework given is quite a bit. They also are more advanced in their teachings now with children learning computer skills in elementary school.

Then there is the pressures of their friends trying to get them to smoke, take drugs and what have you.

Oh sure there was smoking when I went to school and if you did you were ’’cool’’ if you didn’t you weren’t among the most popular. That was bad enough but back then drugs were not an issue and today they are. Also there is more sexual freedom now than there used to be. A teenager has many decisions to make along the way.

Smoking and drugs can kill you so it is not a ’’cool’’ thing to do. Having sexual relations so young can not only lead to children having children by becoming pregnant but the danger of disease is far greater now and there are many that were not heard of years ago, such as AIDS.

Parents need to speak with their children about these issues and also be understanding. At all times show them love and if they get involved in any of these situations try to see them through it.

Often in our busy world today, we feel we are under much stress and do not realise the pressures the children are having.
