I started reading the Deccan Herald regularly after 1996 as I completed my Engineering graduation ( During graduation we were subscribing Hindu for its vast news but mostly focussed at chennai).
It is a news paper with deglamorised presentation and covering the news as it is available. As previous authors have mentioned the articles covered in all the supplements be it current affairs on politics, sports, science and technology are a class apart. But the paper definitely lacked the good presentation comparable to the news presentation of Doordarshan.
It was slow on changing to TIME and when I started staying with my friend I insisted on continuing Deccan Herald. But I had to change over to TOI as I could not convince him for long. He always complained about its boring news presentation.
It is no wonder that it lost the battle to Times of India eventhough in coverage it was betterthan TOI( also TOI lowered its price but DH didnot bother to react). It is true that Deccan Herald lost its well established ground to TOI due to its inability to change.
Now it is in the picking up phase to regain its lost glory. Since last six months I am out of India so not able to read the daily but surfing its website. The website is also a great disspointment. Now it has to take on the national giant TOI. DH has to work on the technology front and give importance to national and international coverage with news glamourisation eventhough its irrevant to a reader like me who is interested in good news and articles. Also it can improve its regional news service to boost its state coverage.
I hope the management of DH reads this and does good to a news paper brand which has been a great knowledge provider for years.
All the best to you Deccan Herald.....
