Deep Blue Doo Doo

Deep Blue Sea is a must-miss. Don’t bother with it unless you go in expecting a B movie.

Wow. I actually wasted a perfectly good evening watching this.......this........junk.

I remember seeing the trailers in the movie theater quite a while ago for this one and thinking “Hmm....looks interesting, may need to check that one out.” - I feel fortunate that I didn’t spend any money on this one (although I guess time is money....but I digress).

The premise, I think, was a good one. The story had potential - the idea is that a few scientists discover that shark brains have some substance that can cure Alzheimers disease. In an effort to harvest this substance they genetically engineer the sharks so that they become larger, thus making the brain larger.

Here’s where they get stupid on us: these sharks with big brains are supposedly smarter due to its size (which we know to not be true - hello?).

The sharks then make it their purpose to eliminate all of these “scientists”, as well as everyone else. Amazing how a shark can decide to knock out cameras, power sources, etc. to get to people. Apparently dragging a helicopter under water is also one of their strategies.....

If you go into this one with virtually no expectations, you’ll be okay. Make sure that you do not pay attention to the fact that they have misused science in a big way - believable science is one thing, this is completely another. The computer generated shark attack sequences are lame and actually pretty funny (only because the movie is so stupid, not because I like to see peoples limbs torn off.....). They did invest in one good actor - Samuel L. Jackson - who must have been stoned when he accepted this role.

If there is ever the threat of a sequel, please don’t waste your money. That would be the scariest thing of all.
