Yesterday night, I had been to watch delhi 6 paid preview with my cousin brother as he was also equally eager to see Delhi 6.
Was awaiting for this movie from quite sometime as rang de basanti was Superb and expected something of that sort.I must say a superb film overall and lived to my expectation, but do not go in the mind set of rang de basani as its a totally different movie than RDB.
First half of the film is bit slow as it recreates the characters and portrays a typical indian mentallity from a NRI’s point of view. But very interesting first half, film revolves around a guy(abhishek bacchan), who comes to chandni chowk just to fullfill his ailing grand mom’s(waheeda rehman) wish to see delhi for the last time.
Here he gets to interact with lots of interesting people like rishi kapoor, atul kulkarni, sonam, kapoor, jalebi wala, om puri and his so called brother, divya dutta, the haryan vi police inspector, photographer(VJ gaurav) and many other interesting characters.
I will narrate one incident where waheeda rehman when she gets ill and faints they all take her to hospital on her way to hospital, they find a chaos and commotion, as abhishek is desperately wants her grandmom to be taken to hospital he down from the cycle rickshaw leaving her grand mom in rick itself to look whats the scene about.
People had gathered there as cow was giving birth, which further adds up to his frustration and when he goes back to his rickshaw he sees granny has disappeared, actually she comes to take blessing from the cow.
Director has shown a typical Indianans in this incident.Its better to watch than to say.Mind you through out the film you are shown a breaking news of kala bandar which creates havoc in chandni chowk area where hindu and muslims stay in peace.
Then there is bit of romantic angle which comes before the interval between abhishek and our own masakali(sonam kapoor).By the way masakali is name of a pigeon and is favorite of om puri(sonam’s father).Diretor has beautifuly related ram leela shots and its present situation.
Second half makes a twist where a hindu muslim riot angle is shown on the news of kala bandar, hindus saying it as muslims have created this sort of bandar which has created havoc only in hindu area and muslims saying that its a plot used to harrass muslims.
Overall a situation is created where people be hindu or muslims which used to stay like brother come hand in hand with rioting and beating eachothers.Even love between abhishek and sonam blooms and at last jalebi wala(mamdu-a character in the film) shoots abhishek bachan, I dont want to tell the last part as I dont want to spoil your fun.Every one has equally distributed role and done fantastic job.
Sonam kapoor is quite ok in the film.Specially I like Waheeda, rishi, abhishek, Atul kulkarni, divya dutta, mamdu(jalebi wala), haryanvi police wala has done very convincing role.At the end the moral of the story is kala bandar is there in all of us, where kala bandar is evil, cruel, distructive.Direction, Cinematography, music truly classic.
This review is too small for a music of AR Rehman, need to write separate review on music of delhi 6.But songs are melidious be it Sufi song Aarziyan, Genda Phool, Masakali Kala Bandar, Bhor bhayee(morning raaga), Delhi 6(hip hop)I recommend you all to go and watch this movie atleast once.Truly intellectual and entertaining film.Do watch this movie.P.S.Sorry guys I wrote this review in hurry after coming from work now as I wanted to tell you all to go for this movie.
