Mesmerizing Maestro

It’s rahman again this time with R.O.Mehra with whom the last association happened in Rang De basanti and what an album it is . Both musically and film wise it became a cult classic. So this combination has created a gentle expectation on the music front. It seems like they have worked well once again. Lets see the songs. There are 10 songs now that’s double than ghajini certainly double the music it has offered.

Masakali: *Mohit Chauhan

Masakali if you wonder what this name is, its been told that its the name of the pigeon used in this song. This song is already a hit as it is part of the promo and was a instant hit. A mesmerizing tune in the offer equally well sung by Mohit chauhan. Also need to be mentioned about the effective use of accordion solo instrument in this song. A fun’tastic song

rating 5/5

Bhor bhaye: *Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Shreya Ghoshal, Raag: Gujri Todi

A classical thumri song in its elements not been marred by any loud unconventional sounds showing the versatility of maestro. This song fully belongs to shreya ghosal. Wow she has sung with fantastic energy and done complete justice.

rating 3.5/5

Genda Phool: *Rekha Bharadwaj, Backing Vocals: Sujata Mazumdar, Shraddha Pandit, V.N. Mahathi

Additional Music Supervision: Rajat Dholakia

A foot tapping folk song starts sedataly and then suddenly gets the tempo raised through the techno beats. A fusion song with rhythmic arrangements of techno beats followed by sea of medley. Sounds funky. Very effectively sung with elan by Rekha bharathwaj(sings for the first time in ARR composition). But song length is short, maybe we are yearning for this kind of fusion more. Rahman ji, yeh dil maange more.

rating 4/5

Dili6: *Blaaze, Benny Dayal, Tanvi, Vivianne Chaix, Claire; French lyrics: Vivianne Chaix and Claire

A thumping energetic title song where you should pay attention to the minute sounds that are wonderfully crafted in this electronic music arrangement. A nice blend of singers giving the song a western feel. But the male voice didnt jell with the female singers.

rating 4/5

Dil Gira daffatan: Ash King, Backing Vocals: Chinmayee

A Song that is strong in melody. A mesmerizing melody that has layers of superflous melody with simple music arrangement. This kinda strong melody has been given to a debutant, Ash king and he has done remarkably well. Effectively supported by chinmayee, a singer with high potential. A special mention about the lyrics mingled with urdu words given exceedingly well by Prashoon joshi. Like the word "daffatan" meaning suddenly, this song will sure to create sudden changes in music mood. A striking combo indeed.

rating 5/5

Rehna Tu:*A.R.Rahman, Backing Vocals: Benny Dayal, Tanvi

Now coming to the song of the album. This is vintage rahman at its best. Perhaps rahman stored the best song for himself. Who else can do justice rather than the maestro himself. A splendid singing all the way. The song starts and goes without any particular loop and when rahman says " Thoda sa resham.and ends it with "tujhe ja.and when bringing it back to rehna tu.its out of the world. Wow what a wonderful composition. A well made musical arrangement with best part being the use of continuum fingerboard for the last 2 mins.

rating 5/5

Noor: Recitation Recited by Amitabh Bachchan, Poem by Prasoon Joshi

This is a couplet voiced by amitabh ji. A poetry that is worked out best with the bass voice of amitabh ji.

rating 3/5

Hey kaala bandhar: *Karthik, Naresh, Srinivas, Bonny Chakravorty

A funky hip hop song sung by karthik and co. The rap part is done by ember and he seems to be a right choice nowadays.

rating 3.5/5

Aarti(Tumre Bhavan Mein): *Rekha Bharadwaj, Kishori Ashok Gowariker, Sujata Mazumdar, Shraddha Pandit, Additional Music Supervision: Rajat Dholakia

A bhajan song with minimal music arrangements. Nice singing again by rekha bharathwaj and ably supported by other backing vocals.

rating 3/5

Arziyan: Javed Ali, Kailash Kher

Rahman cant missout a qawwali composition nowadays. Like khwaja mere kwaja in JA, this qawwali song too is remarkably composed. With the best lyrics done by prashoon joshi, this devotional attempt is something not to be missed. This song will depend on its screen presentation.

rating 4/5

Well, what an album to follow after Rahman winning the most coveted award, golden globe for Slumdog millionaire(best original music score). This album has the vintage stuff from ARR. You have not one but five to six chartbusters. My pick being masakali, genda phool, rehna tu, dil gira daffatan, delhi6. So what else a music lover could look for. Nice blend of singers, new age instruments and orchestration with the soulful lyrics by prashoon joshi making this as a complete musical entertainer. Go buy this album and cherish the beauty of music.

Overall rating: 4.25/5
