I travel to Delhi quite often for the last 20 years or so.And one place that is common to my agenda for shopping and dining is conaught place or CP, as affectionately called by Delhites.I have quite a few of my favourite restaurants in this sprawling structure made by the British, among whom the name that comes first to my memery is Delhi Darbar!
The restaurant ambience is good, furnitures are old but not shoddy, toilets are reasonably clean.But what comes to mind is the Moghlai food served by this rather small restaurant among the famous strings in Delhi.In fact I have taken my dinner in many of the so called five star hotels like Hilton( earlier Holiday Inn Crown Plaza), Marya Sheraton, Taj Palace and Radisson’s but the name that came first to my mind was Delhi Darbar.
Yes you may wonder what is so special about this dining place when you enter there and look around.But you have to relax, order your favourite drink or beer and then look at the Indian food menu’s and choose your favourite dishes.It is only when the food arrives and you have taken some sips in your glass that you will realise the speciality abot Delhi Darbar.
It is because of this food that when I first went to Goa in Panjim, I found out a Delhi Darbar there as well. But that is another storey to be told another day!
