If you are seeing Delhi on your own then using the Delhi Metro is a must. The metro lines cover the major parts of the city allowing for hassle free travel. More lines will be added over the next three years to improve coverage of the city.
All signs and announcements are in hindi and english. When you go buy a token you have to specify the final destination. Remember to hold on to your token as it is needed to exit the station at the end of your journey.
You can avail a 1 day( Rs 100) or 3 day( Rs 250) tourist card which allows for unlimited travel. The metro website( http: // https://delhimetrorail.com/Default.aspx) also has a tourist section which shows some of the capitals tourist sights and the nearest station.
The first compartment in every train is reserved for women only. During rush hour the compartments gets extremely crowded but train frequency is still very good. Expect a little( or a lot) pushing and shoving when boarding the compartment.
