The Delhi Mass Rapid Transit System or Delhi Metro as popularly known came
operational from December 24, 2002 in Delhi. It became one of the Asia’s newest transit systems to
be built. Currently running on three lines, almost lakhs of passengers commute
daily on Metro.
Daily commuters know how difficult it is to get a seat in the Metro at the peak hours but still they are not complaining ( I travel daily n I swear by it).Its better to keep standing in the metro for a hour rather than to travel in the noisy and crowded buses with men staring at you all the time.Although I had my own share of people staring and stinking in the metro too.
Travelling
by Metro is not a cheaper option but yes; it’s a relief in the scorching heat.
For the last 4 years Metro has proved to be a boon for the
Delhites travelling from one corner of the city to another. But this time Delhi
Metro seems to be swinging amidst hullabaloo. While DMRC is interested in
building elevated metro because of it being less expensive, the Urban design
planners & developers are out demanding underground Metro to save the
beauty of Delhi.Well I think , when we have so much above the ground then its better to have metro down there.
But it seems that DMRC is all geared up for the challenges and will definitely find a way out suiting itself
& the people.
