I own a dell latitude D620. This system is considered to be corporate class - road ready quality and it comes at good price. I had warranty for one year and the problem described below happened after warranty time.
Within a year and half of use I started facing overheating problem DELL Latitude and so after some hard work I understood that this is FAN problem. My FAN on the laptop is totally DEAD. So I approached DELL SUPPORT which told me to gave quotation for the parts with 2-3 days.
No reply was received in 2-3 days so I again called DELL Support. After about 8 calls and holding phone line for about 2 hours I finally reached operator who told me that he will escalate the ticket and will reply shortly.
Next I got email from Dells sales and relationship manager stating that PART FOR MY LAPTOP is OUT OF STOCK and will TAKE 5-6 week time.
Here is interesting part : DELL SALES & RELATIONSHIP MANAGER in his email told me that If I pay WARRANTY of RS 14000 for a year or RS 25000 for two years they can fix the PROBLEM quickly otherwise I have to wait for 5-6 week and even after waiting I have to confirm if part is available in stock.
I called him to understand how the part which is unavailable or part which is "OUT of Stock" will be immediately available if I pay 14000 Rs for warranty ( remember - cost of fan in open marketing is around 500-750Rs as seen on internet) . He cannot answer this clearly.
SO BOTTOMLINE is DONT BUY DELL IF YOU ARE NOT READY TO PAY HEAVY RENEWAL FOR WARRANTY BECAUSE ONCE WARRANTY IS OVER YOUR ARE LEFT HELPLESS.
BUY LAPTOP WHICH PARTS ARE AVAILABLE IN STOCK or WHICH dont need repair . I am never going to use DELL AGAIN.
