Cricket,cricket,cricket...STOP !!!!

The national game of India - hockey, I never played it till now! Why? Who has time? Even if one has time, why hockey, play cricket.Thats the only sport, if you are an advent sports person to pursue if one wants to survive. Facts speak for themselves. I have seen football players of our country who had represented India in the olympics in 1965 ( that was the last time they qualified) living like beggars.

I don’t need to say to anyone as once in a while, in the newspapers itself, it comes reported that so and so star player is in such a bad condition or likewise. In a country of one billion plus people and with our steadfast growing economy, its high time quality sports facilities begin to be established.

A game such as basketball which I adore, just to stay in touch with it , I have to travel atleast 12 kilometers and its not that I am in a village or on the outskirts of the city. Its just that our government knows just how to promote one sport that is cricket and thats injustice to everyone.

Everywhere you go, you would easily find a cricket coaching centre or something siimilar to that. Respecting the fact that we are all cricket crazy people, it still remains that its not the only sport and other sports do exist.

Our government needs to promote other such sports and that to on a large scale. Its high time some steps were taken in this regard. Then comes the irresponsible methodology being adopted to fund the players. This has resulted in much talented sportspersons not to rise to their zenith and fight a losing battle.

Till date, cricket players in our country are the only ones who are well-off later on in their life. Except them, everyone suffers. Because of this occurrence, cautious parents tend to warn their aspiring and talented youngsters that ’’ Beta, if you are going to go for cricket, please do or else if you choose another sport , its just going to be a waste of time with no results for you in your future . Better than that, don’t even go in the direction of sports, study and work and lead a normal life!!! ’’

Now wasn’t that a reminder to all those who have tried a hand at sports and make a career out of their loved sport? Just because of the callous behaviour and no support kind of attitude by our sports department does talent goes waste. At this stage, don’t argue that money doesn’t matter and the love of the sport only matters..please!! For everything , earning your day to day bread matters and without that, how much ever you love your sport, you can’t survive without a full stomach.

BUt is it our fault that because of our craziness that all other sports seem to have died in our country? I mean take a look at the day to day commercial ads you see, in every product , from biscuits to cartoons, you would find only one kind of sportspersons, only cricketers!!

Its not the fault of the ads companies if they do that, they want to sell their product and they know that a cricketer’s appearance would market their product much better than any othe sportsperson appearing. Great laurels had been given to our hockey player DHinoj Pillai, but no one saw him getting signed for any ad commercials.

Bottomline is, with the fault of the government to promote and make available other sports, its partly because of us also that other players of different sports suffer. We show not the least interest in them leading obviously to their downfall. Sad case ...
