Desperate Housewives features a bunch of gorgeous ladies in their mid thirties to early forties that reside in a pretty suburban town named fairview. Anyone that watches will be met with perfectly coifed size 0 lovelies who face drama, love and excitement by the bucket load. Usually this results in the viewer either becoming tired of the lack of realism or wondering why their lives arent this way. However Desperate Housewives manages to poke fun at its OTT depiction of life in suburban America:
Bree Vandecamp is every inch the stepford wife, she pauses to clean burrito stains whilst sleeping with her adulterous husband and hates anyone taking her place as prize lemon pie maker. Yet behind all of this she has a bisexual son and a promiscuous daughter. Her constant battles to remain perfect to everyone that meets her poke fun at the image that suburban wives may project.
Gabby is elegant and gorgeous. Yet her husband still sleeps with her maid. She marries a local senator candidate, only to find he was interested in her to get the latino vote!
Susan is ditzy and bubbly, her personality is golden, but despite this she has a string of failed relationships and bouts of bad luck.
Lanette is fesity, succesful and head strong.Yet on a day to day basis she deals with a heard of naughty kids as opposed to making the most of her talents.
Edy is sultry and sensuous, but still cannot get the man she wants!
All of these main characters make for enjoyable, gripping and at times hilarious viewing!
Recent plots have seen faked deaths, sham pregnancies and a gorgeous plumber that killed a cop. The five main women featured are incredulously lucky in many respects, yet their lives are constantly turned upside down by numerous incidents.
Desperate housewives constantly maintains the balance between drama and humour, and is sometimes tear jerking. In the past four seasons it has not gone too far in any direction. Its approach to sexuality, teen issues and adult relationships is wholey realistic with a little kick of drama to spice things up. Its a great feel good programme to watch!
