Its a breathtaking movie....History has always saluted those who have moved away from the coventional path and have taken a path of their own. Anurag Kashyap has done exactly that....He has refused vehemently to be a cow in an already existing herd of non thinkers. He has not only choosen his own path but also delivered goods that the viewers want.
The interpretation of DEVDAS by Sarat Chandra Chatterjee what he has done is just brilliant. I am still finding myself short of words to praise this movie.The music is so unconventional yet so brilliant. Amit Trivedi and Amitabh Bhattacharya have rocked big time....Please carry on the great work. It gives really a great sense of satisfaction when lyrics of a song are given so much importance in this age of HIP-HOP nonsense.
Abhay Deol (The actor finally emerged from the house of pehelwans) is brilliant and has done a prize-winning job. The new actresses also have a brilliant future. Mahi is terrific in the role of PARO and kalki is equally brilliant as CHANDA. While the former has shown promiscuity and anger, the latter has shown innocence and compromise. In any case none of the characters shy away from speaking the truth though it is unpleasant to hear.
AK has also shown us that pros(prostitutes) can be anywhere. It is just unfortunate that those in the red light districts are called as pros. The girl(Paro) who is so called ’cultural’, has the guts to ask for the key of the apartment of one of her previous conquests and also carries a mattress to the fields to make love to his childhood sweet-heart. She also sacrifices her childhood love to marry a man having 2 kids just because he fought with her on the issue of an misunderstanding.
After marriage she again comes back to the hotel of her childhood sweetheart just to show him his ’aukat’. The irony is that such a character is not a pro but an innocent girl(Chanda) who is just a victim of bad luck and situation is called a pro. The potrayal of this irony makes the movie a classic and a must-watch.
The character of the rich and spoilt brat has also been written very meticulously. The lazy, egoistic, and lack of pupose nature of the guy(Abhay Deol) has been potrayed very nicely. This guy is still very good at heart and feels the pain of others. He gets his second chance and takes it with both hands.
Instead of an unceremonious death he chooses life. Thus he becomes DEV D.
I think AK(Anurag Kashyap) has proved his mettle. In a way its dangerous for him now. Now viewers will have a crore expectations from him in his next venture. I am sure that he will not dissappoint them in the future.I guess Anurag should really celebrate and party hard after the release of DEV D. You really deserve a pat on your back AK. Watch out for more bullets from AK(Anurag Kashyap)-47...!!!!!
