Before I entered the theatre I was pretty unsure of how it would shape up - considering that it was a mix of people belonging to different sensibilities as far as Hindi Cinema goes.
And the first half was boring in that it turned out to be preachy and sermonising. Added to that some REALLY unnecessary smooches between Kareena & Fardeen. I am no prude here but that scene came totally out of the blue and was really clumsily felt and performed.
But the second half was something else all together. Nihalani really takes the movie to great heights and manages to deliver his message without any excessive preaching. And ABs monologue at the end was really touching.
Performances wise, AB + Om Puri were at their best ... OPs rather vitriolic comments about the Muslim community may irk quite a few, but this is just a portrayal of a reality.
Rati Agnihotri has a small and I feel, rather thankless role as ABs wife, but she puts in her best. And she really got to me in that once scene in which AB, OP and she get together and talk abt what the constitution means and what she expects for the common Indian.
Kareena and Fardeen are still on their path to gaining some acting respectability and all that can be said is that they are thankfully restrained.
All in all, GN has put out a decidedly superior pruduct which in these days of falsehoods , dares to show the truth. And it deserves all the respect for that.
